that bios is the A27 bios I believe. or A26. either way, yes ff-D4 is a problem with all bios after A51 A51 is the newest that dont have the problem. your best off going that way. its a problem with the added values in the newer bios I think EVGA can and should fix it hopefully with the A60 bios, instead of "fixing" the fan settings which was the A59 update.only reason I use the newer bios is because they oc better. yes with the stock cooler these boards warp like crazy wish evega had gone with the thicker pcb woulda solved all these issues, but we couldnt be so lucky.

I got my FTW about 3 weeks ago. It took a while to get the hang of it but I'm getting solid overclocks. 4.2ghz is rock solid with the voltage set to 1.325. I can get 4.5 ghz almost stable but the temps slowly overpower my cooling. After about 10 minutes of LinX the cores slowly climb to the low 90s and I abort. I'm going to try lapping my CPU but I don't think it'll be enough.

About to purchase - is the FTW worth the extra $$$ over the 655 - model just below?

not unless you plan to do some extreme oc.

    Thanks,

Hitting 4GHz would be nice but would be happy in 3.6 range - Have an 860 and looking at G.Skill PIS (2200) or ripjaw (1600) have the PIS DDR2 in a 775 build and love em.

Im on a 655 and sitting at 4ghz. Its possible it also depends on what cpu you go with and RAM

Thanks all, I swung by Fry's today and they did not have the 655 - so I went ahead and got the 657. I will probably be back soon for help with the OC.

Sounds good man. Either way they are good boards. I have though about upgrading to the 657, but I am sitting at 4 ghz and that is plenty for me. It plays my games and it is nice to be like yeah its at 4 ghz biatch.

Ok tonight I was just seeing what my temps were at. My VREG was at 49C when my computer was idling. I put a little fan pointed towards it and its drop to 30C so far.

What is everyone else letting it sit at?

I'm pretty sure I've killed a few motherboards because of inadequate cooling in that area. It's a big deal if you're overclocking with water. I have a 120mm mounted so it blows air directly on to the the area around the CPU. I don't care so much about the VREG temps as they stay around 40-45 for me but that fan significantly improves my CPU temps under load.

A68 BIOS was released yesterday. Early reports say it doesn't fix the boot loop problems. I'm still testing but I think I'm getting the same ff-d4 thing in A51 as well.

Yeah I doubt they will ever fix that problem honestly.

It just seems to supposedly fix the XMP issue and some cpu microcode stuff.

*Dunno if this is stable, needs a lot more testing

I'm not sure XMP is fixed with my configuration but this isn't really a board for auto configurations so I don't care. The microcode stuff can be very important because it is CPU bug fixes, in this case it's probably for 32nm processors.

After a week of testing I have concluded that A68 is the best BIOS for me. I can reproduce my ff-d4 problems in A51, A59, and A68. This problem goes away with enough juice to VTT. My theory is that the internet consensus on VTT is wrong and too many people are undervolting.

I'll be back here to show you something strange bout my P55 FTW (E657) ...seems that I burned something but the mobo continued to run without I have seen it :/

I'll take pics and try to boot it before, but I fear it's dead or so -_- (I admit that I did hard work on it with lil H50 cooler and high amb temp, but don't tell them lol)

Welp, there's an A68 bios out. Does it fix the FF-D4 thing?

Hye here I come to find some explanations : well those pics should talk by themselves, my P55 FTW (E657) seemed to have killed one of my ram modules a few weeks ago
but no real issue for now except something is melt here between the 2nd PCIe connector and the south bridge :/

The mobo isn't dead but I really wander what happened What use is this Q25 resistor placed for exactly ?

    Hi!

My friend have a problem with post 2a. After mounting WC block on 5870 bios cant start and only thing he can see is 2a post code. Problem is quite strange cause sometimes bios start without problems and sometime he have to start 10 times to boot to BIOS! What cause this 2a post? It says that is detecting primary devices but all hard drives are ok! When he connect 1 hard drive almost always windows starts but after connecting more HDD its almost never. Anyone have any idea how to fix it? BIos version is A70.

    please help if anyone can

That's a transistor, and most likely a mosfet - you could search to see if you can find a replacement.

I got stuck twice at startup with an ami post code error.
    Code is "BF"
The first time was after screwed again my noctua, just a little bit (u12p se2) but i forgot to turn off completely the psu, and the second time was changing an oc setting in the bios.

I wrote to evga and they replied: "I think it is a motherboard failure. Can you please send it for RMA."

So maybe i damaged my mb when i screwed the noctua but there is no reason.
Anyone know why the mb got stuck at the BF ami code? I only know the description of the code "BF - MCP Program. To program chipset from defaults values"
    I had A70 bios

edit: This time i got stuck at C5 code "C5 – Early Shadow. Early shadow enable for fast boot" after changing bclk.
On the manual it wrote "Enumerate and set up application processors"

But the boot continued when pressing on reset button. I'm a bit confused.

usually after i change something or unplug power wires or something i can not boot up what i run it at.. i go through a few things before i even mes around with it.. . i turn off the psu, remove the little battery.. let it sit for a few min. put it back in, power up psu, hit the c-mos button on the board. when it powers up i go into bios. make sure it is at default settings, set just the raid setting and my memory voltages to boot into windows then i restart, go back into bios.. then play with my oc/memory settings.. this gives me a clean start and usually have no problems with error codes.. the other day i removed my block and cpu to check pins and install some new tim.. i forgot to clear the c-mos and i was getting i think d-4 errors until i went through the full list i normally do..

Thanks for the answer but i don't know if it's normal. Normally we can change o/c settings without any boot failure if the settings are "good and stable".
