    Intel D5400XS unable to boot?!

    hi guys,
just got my D5400XS motherboard and a xeon E5405...
i put the xeon into the left socket and tried to boot.
surprisingly the mainboard startet by simply switching on the psu.
the post-code was 00 (ready to boot) but the only thing i saw was a black screen. i resetted the cmos several times but that didn't take affect

other hardware: 1gb kingston 667mhz fbdimm, geforce 8800gts
PSU: Thermaltake TP 750W.... that one only has one 12veps 8-pin connector but on the mainboard there are two 8-pin terminals.

maybe the mainboard won't boot until there are both plugs connected?

please help me, i'm getting frantic

    first thanks for that link

but when pressing "NO" when the program's asking "Does the system freeze on the boot screen?", the only thing recommended is updating the bios

and i really don't think, a 1333mhz fsb xeon, 1gb kingston 667mhz dimm and a gf 8800gts should be "too new" for the old bios

actually the only thing displayed on the post-code viewer is 00. and i believe to remember one of my older boards showing several different codes while booting.
i'm confused, because i bought the d5400xs in new condition and it's definitely not the first system, i built, i don't think i could have damaged it when handling with it

Welp found this for ya at least. http://communities.intel.com/thread/...C8F9.node5COMS

Could be something as simple as loosening a few screws.

uhm well thx for the answers, i tried it with loosening the screws of nb, sb, cpu-cooler but it didn't take effect

i also tried several graphics gards such as the 8800gts 320 and the 7800gt dual.

i really don't like the thought of having to phone intel and wait until i'll get my board replaced

do you have other bords whit socket 771 at your place to try the cpu.
place cpu in socket 0 closest by the i-o.
did you trai to boot whit the BIOS configuration jumper block set to 2-3 or no jumper

that's where i mounted the cpu first, then i tried the other socket..... black screen on both

i'm afraid i'm not in possession of other s771 boards, the d5400xs should be the start into a new era
until now i was only using s775 and s604

the cpu is really brand new, i too it out of the box only 30 minutes before the first try to start the system, so i don't believe it might be broken

edit: i tried to boot when holding the board in my hand (sometimes worked with slot1 p3) and it was still a black screen but the post code display now showed "01" i am pretty fu***n confused oO
