I fried my Bloodrage and bought the P6X58D-E as a budget replacement. It's fine, for the most part, but I simply cannot get my memory to do Cas 6.

On my Bloodrage, my Dominators did 6-7-6-18-1T effortlessly at 1600MHz+, however even at 1531MHz (191 bclk) I can't get cas 6 even with QPI at 1.425v. 7-7-6-18-1T is no bother with QPI at 1.375.

It's not a huge deal since I run my memory at 1910MHz 7-9-7 daily, however it'd be nice if I could get cas 6 for benching.

I'm using bios 0405, which I flashed to because the other bios didn't like the 10x memory multi (at all).

The next official BIOS release should have some more memory compatibility/stability fixes.

I have been running a test BIOS for a while now and it is even more stable than the 0405 bios is.

    Hi,

From where you are now couple easy settings away.

    Manual
Set your memory and voltage to there listed spec.
    Multi- 21x
    Disable Turbo and SpeedStep
    Others also but later.
    Manual.
    CPU V-1.28-1.30
    QPI the same.

Slowly raise your BLCK until have your OC.
    Ram speed will also rise.

    Simple get started.

Hint, add another fan for the H50 in Push/Pull. Helps.

My h50 at 4.2 and over 4.5 under water.

    Also:

The Windows7 service pack 1(RTM) is available to download if anybody wants to get in early.

Microsoft should have it on windows update in the next couple of weeks but this is the same version in an exe and is digitally signed. The 64 bit version is ~ 900 Mb, the 32 bit is slightly bigger.

New bios out on the 21/04/2011

    ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/LG...-ASUS-1402.zip

The 1402 BIOS is officially listed on P6X58D downloads with the notation "Added Memory Re-check Feature" or words to that effect. LB

Well I finally got my upgrade done and I have the hardest time figuring out how to get past 4.0GHz on my i7 970. I don't have the slightest clue on where to begin with this chip. I hear great things about it.

    Specs are as followed:
    Lian-Li PC-A05N
    Intel Core i7 970
    Corsair H50 w/ 2 Scythe SFF21E (S-FDB) 120mm in Push/Pull
    Asus P6X58D-E
    24GB Patriot Viper II Sector 7 DDR-3 1600 (9-9-9-24)
    4x 128GB Samsung PM800 SSD
    XFX HD5870 OC Edition
    Seasonic X650W PSU
I know a couple of things:
    1. Idle temps at stock settings are 41-43C CPU; ambient temps are approximately 72-75F.
    2. At 4.0GHz, temps are approximately 45-47C and 69-71C on full load (running LinX with ~23GB of RAM used for testing).

So I ask, can someone guide me in the right direction as to settings for the BIOS? I know it's YMMV and I really have to sit down and fine tune it, but I'll give it a go. Hell, 4.5GHz would be a dream but I'll settle for anything higher than 4GHz.

All I can say is I need help OCing this CPU.. I have Oced a few 920 Do stepping to 4.2GHZ with ease and I now have done 2 950 both of which I have struggled... Much more Vcore to get stable. Anyone have a bit of advise on the 950 in this board???

Trying for 4GHZ and cannot even get that stable with 200x20.. Vcore needs to be 1.36 min QPI is set @ 1.4 and still the damn thing BSOD...

Gents I finally found a stable setting for this particual chip and I wanted some advise. I have read and read and it seems some would say the vcore is to high and it seems some would say it is ok.

Using the Settings from the 3.8GHZ on page 8 of this thread as a starting point and making some changes, I have bumped the vcore in incriments of 1 until I have reached a level where Prime95 will not blue screen with code 124.

I have set some of the items to auto for example the northbridge and soutbridge as in the past they have seemed to me to not really have an impact on getting a core i7 stable, but that is just me and I am certainly not an expert. What I want to know is the voltages on the core are they ok for everyday use? The machine is going to be used for video editing so it has to be stable and the owner wants everything we can squeeze out of it. H70 is the cooler in a push and pull, talking fresh air from the outside into the case (coolermaster cosmos 1000), and max temps under Prime95 are 78C and Video encoding using Adobe Media Encoder never get past 65C (real world), idle temps 45C. CPU Vcore most of time runs @ 1.376 ala AID64 sensor and once and a while it bumps to 1.38 under extreme load.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

    is it 950 or 970

    and also
    leave the 20multi
Use uneven numbers. Like 21 or 19 or 23.
    You can use 19*211 21*191 23*183
it is stable with less vCore.
    20*200 requires much more voltage!
    21*200 is more useable

it is stable with less vCore.
    20*200 requires much more voltage!
    21*200 is more useable
I have tried 19x211 ans 21x191 and both required the higher vcore so i am stumped... i will try them again though and report back...

Anyone else want to chime in?
