    Asus P6X58D Premium Thread

    Hi,

I just replaced my P6T with the P6X58D premium and its a great board that needs its own thread. It has USB3/ Sata 3 and native support for gulftown. Its not cheap, it was $30 dearer than the deluxe but so far its worth it. Its the 2nd generation X58 board from Asus and they got it right with this one. Its a solid board and the best i've used in the last few years.

Everything just works like its meant to, cool temps, no squealing noises or EMI noise.

For the first time in years this board is a keeper, i'm happy to hang on to it for a while.

Heres some pics: (thanks to katanai)

    Heres a review from youtube:

The board has the same power phases as the deluxe models and has some nice features like memok for solving ram compatibility issues. It also has "Xtreme Phase" which is like a turbo power boost for high overclocks. You can enable or disable it in the bios. Layout is good and runs cool as a cucumber.

Xtreme Phase seems to help when going for 4 Ghz+ or you can turn it off for a moderate overclock and keep temps/voltages lower. It uses the lotes socket instead of the foxconn sockets that are used on other Asus X58 boards(and other brands like Gigabyte). And that is good news imo. I've read too many dodgy things about foxconn X58/P55 sockets.

When compared to the P6T it is rock solid. The P6X58D booted first time and my overclock settings stuck first time. The P6T was fairly good but there was a little tweaking involved to get the overclock right. I'm using the same ram/CPU and the same overclock and its running almost 8 degrees cooler. Also it needs less voltage for the same overclock. The board overclocks so much easier than the P6T.

I've had the board a couple of weeks and cant find any issue worth complaining about. The only thing that didnt work right was TurboV was misreporting Dram voltage but that has already been solved with bios 0604.

The P6T had some minor issues like electrical noise through the speakers but the P6X58D doesnt have any of these minor issues.

I upgrade everytime something new comes out, and tried many Asus/Gigabyte boards for X58/X48/X38 P965 etc and i can honestly say its the best board i have owned.

I will put latest bios here:

This is probably going to be my new board. How is the vDroop? And the BCLK?

Ok Kup i ran a few quick tests for you

I didnt see any Vdroop, didnt move from 1.336v when testing. Also keep in mind i have the early CO chip so if you have a DO you should do better.

    212 Bclk X 19 4027Mhz

    200 Bclk X 20 4000Mhz

    ****UPDATE WITH 930 DO****

    Temps are good

Im using very safe voltage there so ye if you have a DO chip and dont mind voltage in the red im sure you can do much better. Should do 220+bclk.

    I really like this board.

Any idea what else the 0604 bios deals with? I ask because I also am also using this board, and dread bios updates.

My P6x58d is also stable @ 200x20 Bclk.

Rok, thats all i can find about bios 0604. Bios 0504 was released only a week or so before and that said support new CPUs. Thats wierd because all CPUs are listed to work with the original bios 0301.

Anyway i think 0604 was just updated to fix the TurboV issue because it was so close to 0504 release.

Running the 0604 bios no issues @200x21. I got the board for the new storage solutions and paired it with a WD 1tb external mybook capable of usb 3.0.Thing is, it is not recognized in Vista 64bit with drivers enabled etc. I tried 2 other cards with the latest nec drivers and still the drive will only work in usb 2.0 with this board. I started to rma the wd drive but I will try it on an x55 platform to confirm. The board is nice though.

Hey Buggalugs can you post your bios settings?
I also just got the board and did a minor 3.6 OC
    but I want a solid 4.0Ghz

    I would appreciate it!

    @Armeniandave

    For 4Ghz i had to:

    CPU Ratio 20X
Speedstep Disabled( but can work enabled)
    Turbo Disabled
    Blck 200
    Xtreme Phase Enabled
    Dram freq 1600Mhz
    CPU voltage 1.375
    CPU pll v 1.92
    QPI/Dram v 1.375
    Dram v 1.64

You probaly can use less voltage if you have a DO chip but ye those settings worked for me.

Right now im running 3.8 Ghz (21X180) with turbo and everything enabled and close to stock volts. Temps are mid 30's. Higher than 3.8Ghz and you need the extra voltage etc.

    Thanks for the reply!

    I did 20X200 for 4Ghz with 1.325 voltage, I only
changed the ram timings and speed to match the
corsair dominators I have. All other setting are auto.
I haven't really had time to fine tune it yet but
I did play the new Battlefield BC2 tonight with
    no crashes or anything.

This board and chip are so easy to overclock it isn't funny!!!!

Haha, i know. its the first board im really happy with and want to keep. Usually there is some problem that make me want to sell it but i think i'll hang on to this one for a while.

I can save my money for a gulftown CPU.

217MHz Prime Blend stable BCLK out the box but 219MHz seems to have some crazy bios bug whereby it fluctuates from 219 to 230MHz and back, eventually crashing the system... Bios 0604.

Ya i think we reach CPU limit before motherboard limit. Hopefully some other guys will post their results.

It's not the cpu limit, it's a bios bug.

Just got this board from Newegg along with a i7-920, Intel 160gb SSD, and 6gb Crucial DDR3-1600, Seasonic X750 PSU. Using two EVGA 8800 Ultra in SLI as placeholders until the Fermi boards are out. No case right now, waiting for Microcool Banchetto to be delivered on Monday. Expecting a Noctua NH-D14 to be delivered today.

So far board has been awesome, everything worked first time. First thing I did at stock speeds was update BIOS to 0604 and flash firmware of SSD to latest. Then installed Win7 x64.

CPU is a D0 batch 3923A. Haven't gotten aggressive on the overclock yet with the stock cooler, but am running 4ghz using bclk 191, multi 21. Voltages 1.27 cpu, 1.66 dram bus, 1.37 qpi/dram. Seems stable in Windows but am waiting to tweak settings and voltages and proceed with torture testing until the Noctua replaces the stock cooler. If I can 4.2ghz with relatively low voltages I will be real happy.

Banchetto will be fitted with a triple 120 Feser X-Changer radiator, pump, and reserver but plan is to devote the water cooling to the Fermi video cards. Expectation is they will run hot with considerable fan noise at load. And they will be loaded via real time ray tracing (i.e. Mandelbulb animations), folding, and some games too. Being essentially silent, Noctua can take care of the CPU cooling.

While thought of installing a full chipset block on the board entered my mind, so far it is running cool and doesn't even need the fan

Overall the P6X58D seems like close to a perfect board. With two 8800 Ultra, I still have two free PCI-e slots (one for Aver HDTV tuner, one for Asus Xonar Essence STX audio). The two PCI slots are covered but I don't need them anyway. LED-backlight power and reset buttons on bottom of board came in handy since I'm currently without a case. BIOS options seem complete and it was easy to turn off Express Gate and Marvel SATA controller (since I have nothing that will even come close to the old SATA bandwidth at this time). Don't have any USB3 devices, but I can confirm they are USB2 compatible. Board looks good too, with black PCB and no obnoxiously colored plastic. The Crucial Ballistix Tracer (black ones with green and red activity LEDs and blue ground effects LEDs) looks dope and seems to run fine at DDR3-1537 with 7-7-7-20-1T @ 1.66v.

My previous build was a E8400 on EVGA 780i, so I'm new to the Core i7 architecture. Overclocking has changed for sure. Any suggestions on how to tweak the settings for best overclock on the P6X58D would be appreciated!

OK I had a little time to adjust settings.
    I am currently at 4.3Ghz with 21X205 @ 1.3Volts
It is IntellBurnTest stable at very high settings

    This is with a D0 i7 920

I'm really liking this board alot!!

Also an FYI I saw on the EK site that they are making a full chipset block for this. Should be ready this month (hopefully)

So has anyone pushed their board yet? I'm talking 220BLCK+. Is pushing high PCI-E still needed to get past the BCLK wall at 222? How's the vQPI requirements compared to regular X58 boards?

I heard this board has crappy USB3 performance, it uses some bridge or something, that true?

I dont think its crappy, it just uses a separate NEC chip for USB3 because Intel is not going to upgrade their chipset to USB3 for another year or so. I dont have any devices to test it yet.

I don't think the USB 3 is crappy but honestly I don't have anything USB 3 to try it with!
It does work fine with my 2.0 stuff.

As far as the full block we probably don't need it but I'm sure its gonna look sweat! BTW what are you using to measure the temps?

Maybe everyone can post some of there settings so we can try to take these boards a little higher?

I'm at 4Ghz right now cause it's nice and stable and my makeshift watercooling leaves a little to be desired!

I'm doing 20X201 with 1.30 Volts, everything else set to auto

wow i would at least set the QPI/DRAM volts manually. Auto usually overvolts qpi/dram and gives you high motherboard temps too.

Hey guys what about vdroop? No vdroop on this board right?
