The CM 690 II Advanced Case Thread

A really nice, evolved upgrade to the original classic with an excellent $99 price to match! Notable features include all steel body, all black interior, room for 2 internal 120.2 radiators, VGA support bracket, top SATA hard drive dock and a cutout in tray allowing the ability to install/remove back plates without having to remove the motherboard.

Mine arrived yesterday and in general very pleased with the looks and build quality. Have it up and running with my TRUE; can't finish until I get new rad so can go internal. Some preliminary pics...

Next to my old CM 690:

According to the first pic, it will be the "advanced" and the "not advanced" version of 690 II?

Yeah it's called the basic and is $20 or $30 less iirc. A quick glance says the only thing the basic doesn't have is the top SATA dock and the optional VGA support bracket though there is probably a couple more things.

Some more pics, close ups of the rad installed in top and first boot with loop installed. Bought a Swiftech MCR220 at Micro Center yesterday, only 34mm thick and fits very nicely as you can see. Gonna have to move my optical drive though (and mosfet sink got in way of orienting rad other way though I think this work better anyway)

can anyone confirm if you can remove ALL 3.5" bays? Also, is it possible to fit a 360rad by removing the sata dock thing, or is it really hard to remove?

Yes. Haven't done it myself but according to the manual the whole thing comes out. I had assumed maybe 3 of the 6 and not much more room needed for a rad. As for the top that would be a 'real' mod. Have to cut the metal for venting and also remove the SATA dock and plastic in that area. I can take pictures of the top piece. Also, I'll bring in the manual to work and scan and post; would be a good addition to the thread anyway.

Thanks! I heard you can remove 4 of the 6 and seen videos on it, but I really hope all 6 can go out.

The included front and top fans are 140mm actually. Though to be honest that is one of my few gripes so far-they don't seem to have improved the quality of their fans. Like the original, don't feel like they are moving much air and look as though they are running at no more than 1200 RPM. I swapped front with a green 120mm anyway. The on/off button for the fan LEDs is a nice feature for sure.

Damn, though shipping only cost me $20. Hardly expensive for a case. Thanks for posting.

    WrigleyVillain :
    1. is it possible to put a second front fan atop the already mounted one
    2. does the side panel fan opening also have a built-in dust filter
    3. can you please post some more pictures from different perspectives(especially of the inside)

    thanks in advance

"Generally speaking, CMOS power consumption is the result of charging and discharging gate capacitors. The charge required to fully charge the gate grows with the voltage; charge times frequency is current. Voltage times current is power. So, as you raise the voltage, the current consumption grows linearly, and the power consumption quadratically, at a fixed frequency. Once you reach the frequency limit of the chip without raising the voltage, further frequency increases are normally proportional to voltage. In other words, once you have to start raising the voltage, power consumption tends to rise with the cube of frequency."

    1. I don't think so. I suppose it could be possible if you could mod the front mesh
    2. Unfortunately not.

Nice looking and thanks for posting!

AAbenson-sorry just noticed your post. Yeah as you can see in Helix's third pic the 140mm front fan is reaches almost all the way to the top of the drive cage area so there isn't any room for another one. I have a 120mm in mine now and even then there isn't room for another without modding. Too bad, it would look sweet and cool better.

Yeah I will post some more pics as well as the manual section showing how to remove drive cages and install rads, been slacking (read: gaming).

im about to change my current box which has long been overdue,my thought was to get the Antec twelve hundred or wait a bit for this case(CM 6902A) to show up and see what people get out of it,the HAF series have a problem with dust which makes it a no go for me.
im not a water user so air only...which is why its important to me to have a good air inflow.

    nice pix HelixPC

Man I am tempted. Dual 120's and I could finally make my computer silent even during the summer. Can anyone confirm Swiftech new pump, res, and rad combo would fit in the top radiator spot. That would make for a super clean watercooling setup!

What is the largest (length) power supply that can be used while still preserving room for a dual rad (2x120) mounted on the bottom?

I can measure the PSU area later this morning...just woke up and the house is still dark and quiet the gf is asleep.

Also will attempt answer miptzi's question re. rivets, sorry. Also have some more pics I've been promising.

In the meantime linked below are pics from a dude at TPU showing the VGA bracket installed. I like that it can take an 80mm fan.
