i wonder, if people using this would have wanted a 500GB+ regular hard drive as well for the sake of storage. with how much this costs, id hate to see people not get it cause its only 256GB

    No USB 3.0..?

Too bad, otherwise a very nice laptop that's pretty future-proof.

    nice!
    but QuadSSD?? WTF?

...and may I add: to powerful... it's a 13" notebook -> not really a power hungry users...
smaller chips = better profits from the Sony name IMO!

    Quad SSD + 13"?!

Crazy nice laptop if those specs are accurate. I realize you can get more powerful laptops (well, desktop replacements), but I'm not aware of any in that size class.
Dual CCIE (Route\Switch and Security) at your disposal. Have a Cisco-related or other network question? My PM box is always open.

This a part of the reason why the desktop market is shrinking. The product in the mobile arena are way more interesting and innovative than the desktop parts.

If the damn thing has 4 32gb SSD and that good of a screen, the other components are basically free.

I am guessing this is in response to transfer rate not any other spec. My guess is even then the bottleneck is in the raid chip, not the SSD.

If it had USB 3.0, I'd consider snagging one.

For the naysayers: just because its not what you want, doesn't mean nobody else has use for it. You think it's overpowered? wtf are you talking about, this is XS.
This is the perfect ultra portable workstation, especially for tasks such as 3d content creation, video editing, compositing etc.
1920*1080 display? its an option. and a useful one for the same tasks mentioned above.
And lets not forget the graphics card. gt330m may not be high end to standards here, but its unheard of in a 13 inch laptop, and more than good enough for some mobile gaming.
As for battery life, 2 hours? Please. Sony rates the standard battery at up to 7.5 hours, 7 with max brightness, and up to 3.5 hours of dvd playback. Sure, these are likely exaggerated, but i'm sure you could still get a good 5 or 6 hours of normal usage with it. That's without even mentioning the optional extended battery rated at up to 11 hours.

And for those of you concerned about usb3 or even firewire, it has an express card slot, so you can easily add it yourself.

I think you can see now why I will be getting one of these as soon as I can, It is the first laptop I know of where there is no compromise on size, battery life, power(both cpu and gpu), and weight (3.07 lbs). The only real downside is the price, but for what you are getting, I think it is well worth it.

Anyone want to purchase my "old" (3 month) Z series?
Seriously, the Z is like the NISSAN Z. Top performance, in a really light box. It's the best laptop I've had the pleasure of using.
However, my laptop has 1600x900 (13") and I find text had to read at times. Sony also loads tons of bloatware on their computers (home videos of japanese children??).
But the computer is great. My guiess is that this model is around $3500.

Edit: My z, (2.53GHz Coreduo, 7200rpm drive, 4G on ram and led backlit 1600x900 gets around 3 hours battery life average. But, the sleep mode is one of the sweetest sleeps I have seen, almost instant, in and out

Resolution is about density of pixels, it's not the fault of the screen if the original material is blurry and low resolution. Ironic how print has 3 times higher density and resolutin as lcd screen but no one complains that they can't read printed magazines. Blu ray movie on this screen will be just as good as any other 1080p screen. This is actually great development

You can not compare print and screen "resolutions". They are totally different technologies.

Wow, this laptop is amazing. I want one so badly as it would be perfect for my bus rides. I hope it has a decent battery life.
