    Intel SSD X25-X 40GB - Is it worth it?

    I was looking at moving up to SSD, and I've read specs on this thing, the read speed is still 250mbs on all of their series of SSD's and although the write speed is at a suposed 35mbs, all im going to be using this drive for is OS. Will the WRITE speed make any real noticable difference in boot up times?

    I don't know much about this drive, but write speed would not affect the boot up time or other typical OS-disk operations. Read speed and seek-time is much more important for OS-disk.

    IMO It's just too small. Doesn't a W7 Ultimate install take like 30 gigs?

    I'm not sure how large it is exactly, but I have about 39GB used on my 60GB Vertex and what is:

    Win 7 Ultimate x64
    ~14-18GB of games
    Lots of applications
    1-2GB of files (Photos/etc)

    A w7 install takes about 22GB, but it ends up just under 10GB after a couple of good known SSD-tweaks.

    I have 17GB free on my Vertex 30GB OS-disk, after installing w7 + updates + a few application. I use a good old HDD as storage and system drive.

    a 40GB SSD will be more than sufficient for any windows install. Use the rest of the space wisely and install games/big apps etc on another HDD if you find space becomes an issue.

    22GB ?!?!?!?!

    weird.....my 7 ultimate uses 10GB when fully installed.

    what have you done.....installed it twice? lol

    I'm only going to install the OS and nothing else on it. I'll have other hard drives for games/music/storage etc

    It's worth sh*t to me...no way would I buy anything that small, even if it's just for a plain OS. The smallest size I would consider is 80GB.

    Well...why when an OS is only around 12GB max, and if nothing else is going on it...why waste a good hundred or so on space you aren't going to use That doesn't make any sense.
