    CES 2010 Benching

Finally got to make it to CES, big thanks to Fugger for putting on such a great event. Got some benches here that went down and made it to my USB stick.

Don't be deceived, I wasn't actually benching Clarkbar. Cpt. Planet was pouring, Shamino was doing everything else, and I was standing there complaining about stuff and bashing Clarkbar. k|ngp|n's Venom container works as awesome on this setup as it does on Phenom II, the temp stayed stuck at about -185.4, wouldn't budge.

Then we went to chill at Fugger's (and by "chill" I mean chug monsters and bench), and naturally discovered that the Clarkbar had died, as all of them seem to. (I'd use extreme caution with vcore above ~1.8v unless you're below -150, even if it's just for a minute) So due to that unfortunate turn of events, we switched to Mikeguava's E759 X58 Classified and Core i7 975 courtesy of Fugger. Ditched the wussy heatsinks for LN2 on a single 5870. Mikeguava, Shamino and I beat on the rig for a while and ended up with some good results. The MSI 5870 is a screamer, though seems to have memory throttling issues even past 1220, so we left that alone, which was severely detrimental to vantage and 03...:-/ I cold bugged the gpu while trying to save a screenshot of the single 05, so just imagine it in your head. Same as 03 but two clicks higher on CPU.

    Dual GPU 3DMark05 49593 - Core i3 540 @ 6516MHz + 2x 5870 @ 1036/1224

    Single GPU 3DMark05 46018 - Core i7 975 @ 5660MHz + 1x 5870 @ 1350/1200

    Single GPU 3DMark03 108643 - Core i7 975 @ 5597MHz + 1x 5870 @ 1360/1200

Really hope I can make it again next year, between meeting up with everyone, trying to shave down my lap times, and the benching, I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

That 975 is a beast isn't it LOL - were you using the GTX for the mem? what mem speeds were you running - I ran that GTX up to and past 2200 C7... looks like we were probably using too little voltage at the event for the speeds? I was very nervous about killign the cpu so I played it safe - looks like you went all out on the volts LOL

I think it's not possible, but if you set "Unofficial Overclocking" to enabled, and use another application to apply the Vgpu, if you open Afterburner it reads the proper value, but you can't make any adjustments.
Hopefully I'm wrong here, one of them folks should clarify that

50k was indeed the goal, still out there for the taking though

Yeah it's a sweet chip. I don't think 1.6-1.7V is dangerous at all. Often times it doesn't help though. For the record, Mike set the vcore that time, not me. (Though I was thinking of going higher...) No GTX's, just recently RMAed 2000C7 GT's...around 2200C7 mostly yeah.

Normal retail storebought 5870. Regarding the vgpu I'll comment later if I can...

No way man, I sucked pretty bad, even more so since I have the "weight advantage" lol. It's like with my benching, I was trying to go tighter than the car could handle, sliding everywhere.
