    [Review] Acer GD245HQ (24"-1080p-120hz)

The GD245HQ is faster and has more accurate colours than other 120 Hz monitors we've seen, giving it the crown of the best 3D monitor currently available. And it's the only one with a 24'' display.

This display has better performance than I expected

Bro, its 24" thats a really strong point. Now, Im not a fan of Samsung screens, and seeing how manufacturers are pushing 3D, Im glad we are getting more choices. After such bad experience with Samsung, I Would take Acer without thinking twice.

While we're looking at the connectivity, it's a good time to revisit a question that we're often asked: can a HDMI cable carry a 120 Hz signal/?

The answer is 'no'--with the current version of the standard (1.3) at least. Our tests did manage to push the refresh rate above 60 Hz, but only to 75 Hz with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels.
    worst review ever?

I had the sammy 120hz and its was simply awful, the colours were so nasty. I loved the 3d and response times though so hopefully this will be amazing. But with such bad past experiences I will need a more solid review

Well it was great for batman, but there is not enough support from studios yet. Patched 3d only kinda works. Also, the 22" screens out at the moment are terrible

just stumbled over this thread when i googled reviews for the acer gd245hq.

are there any good reviews out there yet? 2 months later and i still can't find any in-depth reviews of it. i'm just interested in the 120hz and this acer seemed to be the best option so far.

the only more detailed review i found is a user made one: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=160941
however, after reading this review i was a bit disappointed, especially the coronas around objects like text looks very annoying. seems like the overdrive of the panel is too aggressive. a huge let-down tbh.

hopefully reviews from behardware, prad and tftcentral will follow soon.

    Pros:

    - Lowest response time of any LCD so far
    - Very nicely calibrated colors (compared also to the whole 60Hz TN panel range)
    - Somewhat reasonably priced 1080P 120Hz monitor
    - Minor backlight bleeding despite the high brightness

    Cons

    - Coronas quite visible around text (varies from sample to another)
    - The glossy bezel that points out quite a lot from the screen itself causes reflections from the screen.
    - Possibly a bit higher input lag then the other 120Hz LCDs? (various people post different results depending how it's been tested so it's difficult to tell, haven't heard of any1 personally noticing any excessive input lag when gaming tho)
    - Relatively low stand

Well that sums up this Acer quite nicely, rest is the typical TN stuff. I'm not gonna bite on this one, gonna wait a little longer and see what comes out. Backlight bleed is the only annoying issue with my current 120Hz LCD.

mh, well, seems like i/we have to wait a little longer for the 'perfect' 120hz gaming tft. too bad. backlight bleeding and panel uniformity should be notably improved on a led. no idea why acer didnt use led in the first place.

HDMI 1.3 CAN carry 120Hz signals - just not at 1080p, but 1080i and lower. HDMI 1.4 is needed for 120Hz 1920x1080p.

I just learned this yesterday when looking at the upcoming 3D firmware update for the PS3, which has HDMI 1.3.
