I keep looking at the Sony KDL52XBR9 and can get it shipped here for $1600. But not sure if a Samsung, Sharp or Philips would be better.

Vizio for me. I have a 32" and a 42" both 720p. About three years old and have been happy with them. Not top of the line but I can't complain for the price.

i have a samsung 37" about 5 years now. i could get a similar one now for a third of the price. sometimes i wish it would break so i could justify an upgrade.
    it's an awesome tv

There are three 90s Sharps, two newer Samsungs, and Two Panasonics from the 1980s (1984 and 1989 respectively). I would recommend all of these brands since they seem to last forever and thats good.

Most people only have one TV. Honestly do you need TVs placed strategically around your house so you don't miss any ad action ?

Samsung seems to have the popular vote, and positive feedback as-well.

I have a 2+ year old Samsung LN52A550. Best TV I've ever owned...

I had a 50" Hitachi 720 (projection) before this one and besides the resolution difference this Samsung blows it away!

I'm a huge Samsung fan now...

I have an Acer 28inch LCD, and it has been terrific. It's a shame you didn't have
Acer as an option. I only bought it because it was cheep, but after a few years
I still can't see any dead pixels and it works flawlessly. Can't ask for any more than that.

Until last week, none, and happy about it. Then my dad decided that he'd replace his 42" Hitachi plasma with a 50" Samsung one, so I got the Hitachi. Now I've ended up using it as a monitor for my 24/7 rig (which I barely touch, but it's on all the time at least), works just great for watching movies, the only thing is I don't know where to put it... Just sits on the floor as it is now.

I would have taken out Phillips or maybe Mitsubishi as they are much less known/owned than Vizio now days. Or maybe Vizio is just big in my area only... IDK, but where I live almost everyone gets a Samsung LCD, or if they cant afford it then they get a Vizio. Because the Vizio is much cheaper than anything else and offers much higher quality picture than most other brands, at least out of the box anyway.

well really there should be enough pole options to have all the major brands, unfortunately thats not the case.
