This is going to be my first water cooling, always been wanting to try it out so here goes... it's going to be very simple single loop, just for the cpu, i might upgrade later on but didn't want to go crazy on my first watercooling rig =)

it is the 8800gtx.. it's an older video card i had.. waiting for the new nvidia cards to come out soon before upgrading =)

lets start putting things together... encountered some bad stuff...

bad stuff #1! these arylic? holders broke on me!! last picture of them still intact! lol but they bascailly all snapped off tried to use electric tape and superglueing but no luck.. have to figure something out for this now :angry2:

so decided to give the silicone mod a try, i saw them being done to the xt water blocks.. it's bascailly about a mm of 100% silicone applied to the inlet part of the water block

time for some leak testing..






leaked tested it for about 36 hours actually.. had to do some stuff so just left it running for a while basically
a slight leak on the reservoir side.. but not a big deal some more tightening and good to go..

mounted my water block!


bad thing #2 ... flinging the water block around scratched my gigabyte logo! haha but not a big deal should have been more carefully moving the computer around..


at this point i was fairly happy! everything works no leaking good to go! booted my computer and checked my bios and noticed my temp idle is around 28-30c wasn't bad so was looking online to see what the idle temps are and found this guy on a forum that said his was around close to 100c without OC yet.. any who ppl were helping him out and notice one of the mistake might be the inlet and outlet of the water block might be reversed.. then a little double check on mine.. and guess what!!!

brings me to bad thing #3 and the worst one! :angry2::angry2::angry2:... my inlet and outlet of my water block was the wrong way around! NOOO!


so took half of it apart.. drained it and now should be correct.. and have to start at least 12 hours of leak testing once again...

i reversed it to make it nicer.. but the swiftech logo is now upside-down =(.. oh well.. although curious is i don't think it should matter as long the the 3 screws are lined up to the cpu lever as per instructions but curious if the logo orientation is linked to how the block needs to be oriented any know?

mounted the xt wrong the first time had the inlet and outlet the other way around... so to fix had to unmount all of it again..

i ended up flipping the block around making the logo upside-down so i don't have to cross any tubing under each other.. was reading the instruction it mentions to have the 3 screw side parallel to the cpu lever but doesn't state if the logo orientation is suppose to be a certain way or not.. i don't think it needs to be but hopefully it can go either way

Maybe if u mounted ur fans in a diff direction, then u would not see the fan cables

Is it possible to mount the rad with the fans on top of the rad? Then you could have the fans sucking cold air and pushing it through the rad. As you have the 1850rpm GT's I think push would be better.

i was thinking that initially as well actually... however came across this

basically.. "Push for fast fans of over +1800rpm, -1300rpm pull works better and doesn't matter if it lies in between."
i don't plan on running mine at max fan speed all the time however all this the difference i think is 1-2c either way

but yea i'm not 100% committed to it so if anyone have better data i'm all ears =)

so some updates...
flipped the inlet and outlet of the swiftech xt.. talked to gabe at swiftech and he said my new orientation is fine with the logo upsidedown so thats good..
did a leak test.. and it was NOT good! my reservoir intake was leaking all over.. tried a ton of stuff nothing fixed it!! :angry: i bought a Bitspower G1/4 Extender with my water cooling parts just in case.. but it was still not good news! so at basically 4am i found some spare barbs that came with my swiftech xt water block that i didn't use tried it and it worked!! went 8 hours without incident.. lame part now thought is i can't use my compression fitting on the intake grrr

i also flipped the fans over so the wire is facing the back now much cleaner! thanks for the suggestions!
but still in the pull config like it was before..

currently i have bleeding done and computer is booted up!
doing some overclocking test and priming =)

running 4.2ghz and load temp is about 55c

Fan Orientation Test results!

what i did here is try out different fan orientation... each test consist running Prime95 for 10 min exactly and letting it cool down for 5 min all running at ~1200 rpm fans.. avg temp is calculated from the lowest idle to highest load temp. Temp readings were taken from Real Temp and Case Ambient Reading from fan controller.

i7 920@4.3Ghz + MCR320 + 3x Gentle Typhoons

1) Push - From air inside the case into radiator and out the top
Avg Temp - 68.5 c
5min cool down - 37.5 c
Case Ambient - 24 c
2) Pull - From air inside through the radiator and out the top
Avg Temp - 67.5 c
5min cool down - 37.5 c
Case Ambient - 25 c
3) Push - From air outside the case into radiator and into the case **Winner**
Avg Temp - 66.5 c
5min cool down - 35 c
Case Ambient - 27 c
4) Pull - From air outside through the radiator and into the case **Original**
Avg Temp - 67.5 c
5min cool down - 36 c
Case Ambient - 27 c

not super scientific but all i could do and tried to keep it as consistent as possible.. =)
kinda interesting results i think.. shaved a few degree but basically dumped it into my case...maybe i need a stronger rear exhaust...

also something to factor in... room ambient is around ~23 c
i have radient floor heating so hot air comes from the floor

currently running it at an even slower rpm fan speed to make it even quieter and looking at the longer term effects of dumping heat into the case...

room ambient is around ~23c
cpu Load temp ~69c
