Intel 80Gb G2 and AHCI problem

This weekend i got my new setup together. So i plug in the ssd, i setup bios in AHCI mode and install win7 64 ultimate. Everything was ok till i shut down pc to go to sleep. Next morning i booted up the pc and i got disk boot failure. Bios could see the ssd but it couldnt load OS. Reinstalled OS, inf drivers, gfx drivers, after some reboots i had to go to eat. After about 1 hour i returned back i powered up pc just to see the same disk boot failure message again. I am like ok this ssd is going back to the store. And then i thought to give IDE mode a try. I installed win7 64 again , along with inf drivers and gfx drivers. After 3-4 complete shut downs i went to sleep. This morning everything still works fine. It boots up with no issues at all.

I have read that intel ssd should use AHCI mode. Anyone else have the same issue? When i choose AHCI it tends to lose the drive for some reason while IDE seems to work perfect. But in IDE mode i feel that is is a little slower. Need some help plz

I’ve had similar issues and have yet to find a solution. I have two Intel G2 drives, which intermittently “disappear” when I boot up. Sometimes I can see the drive in the bios, sometimes not.

Next time it happens unplug the power supply from the ssd. Reconnect and then see if it boots OK. This works for me. Data is never lost, but it is a pain nonetheless.

Intel drives perform much better in AHCI mode so I have not tried IDE to see if the same thing happens. It will be interesting to see if your drives continue to boot in IDE mode as this would imply it is something to do with AHCI. I might try IDE mode to see if that cures my occasional boot problems.

Now that i test outside case its ok to plug and unplug everything. But as soon as i fix them in the case then yes, this would be a nightmare. So your solution is to unplug and plug again the power from the ssd? Btw i always see them in bios but unable to boot. So no fix for this? Is this MB issue? SSD issue or what?

Noone else had the slightest problem using Intel G2 and AHCI? Is it just me? I am going to try again because i dont like the IDE performance in comparison to AHCI tbh, but i would like to know if its MB or SSD problem that it fails.

Just in case anyone has the same problem. i solved it just by updating the MB bios. I dont know why this was an issue or why noone commented on this, but i thought to give it a try and it was nice to see that worked

I had a similar problem when I switch to AHCI mode 1st time, the computer will start up and use the drive like normal on the 1st boot then when you shutdown / restart the drive is no longer working

what I found is that when switching to AHCI mode, you need to check to make sure the new drive is in the boot list since some bios's when switching don't update the boot list/available boot devices.

I guess everyone assumed you tried that first.
Your solution sounds kinda like me, when client's PC doesn't work and I spend 20min doing other stuff before discovering the cleaning lady unplugged it by accident

Never assume anything i guess. Sometimes your mind stuck bad :P

Yes most of the times its not fun to try everything you can think of, re istall OS 2-3 times and finally the solution is more simple than you can imagine. But what can i say, live and learn!
