    1st Water Cooling

hey all, i am about to put together my new water cooling system and i am unsure what order to setup my loop? i have a "Swiftech Apogee™ GTZ" block, a MCP 350 pump, and an MCR 220 radiator... i will also have a res (100 or 150?) what size do i need? here is a diagram of how i plan on setting it up. thx

I would always have it go res-pump-rad-block. The most important bit is res-pump as it minimises the risk of your pump running dry

yes, put the pump right after the reservoir to avoid problems with it

+1. Also make sure your res is the highest component (or one of the highest). After the pump and res position, the absolute most important factor of a loop (IMHO) is shorter tube length. Therefore, position everything so as your tube length isnt exceedingly too long. Also avoid unneeded bends in your loop, routing your tube in the most direct manner.

Looking at your diagram, I would also try mounting your radiator outside (using Swiftech's radiator mount) and the res inside.

    Good luck!

thanks for the responses! ok, im toying with the idea of mounting the Res inside the case now for the sake of shorter tubes and direct routing, after measuring my bay i realized i also have room for a single radiator behind my intake fan... would it be worth it to get a single as well? and what size Res should i get? 100 or 150?

With just one cpu block all you would need is a good 1x120mm rad, I like the pa120.1

i eventually plan on cooling my gpu as well tho... so a dual would be more future-proof. im also considering a dual bay res.

That looks MUCH better. The res and pump is positioned perfectly. However, the rad might not work there. You might need to use some elbows to get the tubing to work with the rad like that (even then, it might get in the way of your vid cards). It would take more tubing (but its better than elbows) but I would look into mounting the rad on the back of the case.

Keep it simple without any GPU Wcooling for maintenance.

FYI Pumps have rated Heat ratings I noticed this looking at my DDCs that say they are rated for 65 degrees C, something to look at, my ideal loop to compensate for this possible heat is:

    Res, Pump, CPU, Radiator, Res

    Some people do

    Res, Pump, Radiator, CPU

It works but if you find your fluid temperatures exceeding your pumps rated temperature then I have no idea what can happen. >.> I don't want to find out either.

^.^ I like your set up with the side mounted duel rad.

my first box arrived today with my radiator and pump! =P I went straight to ACE Hardware and got longer bolts to mount it on my side panel. I am wanting to use 90 degree fittings (3/8") between the radiator and the window but i cant get any dimensions/specifications on any fittings online... i have about 1 inch of clearance from the rad to the side panel, can anyone suggest a good low-profile fitting? thx... wanting to order them tonight

Some very nice bitspower 90 degree fittings out there, but its really what looks right on the build

well after being gone for ces and the xs party i havent been able to work on my computer for awhile.. . i just started working on putting my water cooling together today and heres some updates =P. i ended up dropping the idea for a reservoir and instead went with a t-line (it was cheaper ) i also just ordered my second radiator (a mcr 120) for my drive bays which i will add to the loop next week. it was really fun squeezing all this hardware in my case! my tubes are very long atm so i can open my side panel, but i have some koolance quick disconnects coming in the mail with my second radiator which will allow me to make the tubing much more direct.

    heres some pics..

    Shortest loop aways wins.

The only time u need to worry about order is for bleeding and draining reasons.

ITs easier to bleed a res if its b4 a pump.

And its easier to drain a loop after the pump.

yeah thats why i cant wait to get my quick disconnects... even with this setup my MAX load temp while running OCCT at 3.8ghz is now only 44.5-45 C... it used to go up to 58-60C i love water

    enjoy the system..

however your gonna get the upgrade bug. :P

no beginner can leave there system up longer then 2 months.
You get tempted to add stuff onto it.
