Intel's lineup of 32 nm Xeon processors

"Outgrowing the known lineup of 32 nm client processors (under the Core family), Intel's upcoming lineup of processors based on the 32 nm Westmere architecture will comprise of no less than 13 models under the Xeon E5000, L5000, X5000, and W3600 series. Among these, there are six hexa-core Xeon processors, including X5680 (3.33 GHz), X5670 (2.93 GHz), X5660 (2.80 GHz), and X5650 (2.66 GHz). X5680 has a TDP of 130W, with the latter three sub 3 GHz models having TDP as low as 95W. There is an energy-efficient L5640 hexa-core model clocked at 2.26 GHz, with TDP at 60W, and a single-socket W3680, clocked at 3.33 GHz with 130W TDP. All these models have six cores, and 12 MB of L3 cache.

Next up, are Intel's first 32 nm quad-core processors: Xeon X5677 (3.46 GHz, 130W), X5647 (3.06 GHz, 95W), E5640 (2.66 GHz, 80W), X5630 (2.53 GHz, 80W), X5620 (2.40 GHz, 80W), and energy efficient L5630 (2.13 GHz, 40W), and L5609 (1.86 GHz, 40W). Except L5609, all these quad-core chips have HyperThreading Technology and Turbo Boost available. The L2 cache amounts for each of these chips is unknown as of now, but should be up to 8 MB, or as low as 4 MB for some models. Most of these chips are slated for release on March 16, 2010."

This is looking good, if Intel will only release an Extreme Edition 6 core for the desktop I'll just grab one of these...

Yeah the table was posted by a user on TPU so it's nothing official but this news as a whole does make sense...

    W3530 = 2.80GHz, hence FUD is incorrect, and i7 930 = 2.80GHz instead of 2.88GHz, 21 multi, 22 with turbo on, and i7 doesn't like even multis, so it's gonna suck.

But I wonder the desktop mobo's will support these? Wouldn't that cannibalize sales for their extreme edition desktop part ?

Bunt the xeon counterpart are way more expensive, e.g. the current model, x5550 2.66MHz 45nm part is priced ~$1000 , so you're not saving much $, it might be better / cheaper to buy the desktop extreme edition part

I don't know, let's just say that I might be able to get one a bit cheaper.

Ordinary users are uninformed and have never heard of Xeons.

Rather, they are ignorant, though they are stupid for happily staying that way.

If these work, I wonder how they'd OC.

32nm QC Xeons, just as expected.
Now if their pricing is right, I just might get one insted of desktop i7-9xx line-up,
    which sucks IMO.

just because someone doesnt know about something it hardly makes them stupid or ignorant. Xeons are designed for servers, not desktops - the vast majority of users are more than content using C2D to surf the web etc.
I guess that makes me a whole bunch of stupid for not knowing things that i have no interest in - quantam physics for one

Desktop parts will be available from 6-12 months after xeon server parts. These are very telling for the near future
Xeon servers are meant to run 24/7/365 , hence the premium , unless you are desperate or won a lottery why use them ?

Because often these are more clockable or can be undervolted lower; and
also because there are things not available as desktops. LGA1366 is officially
3 processors now, and it will once again be 3 processors with the release of
Gulftown: 930, 960 and 980EE. Intel is killing off 920, because it was so
clockable, that it made 940-950-960 pointless. Now then why get a 45nm
    QC 2.8GHz 930, when a 2.4-2.66GHz 32nm, hopefully equally or even better
clockable Xeon xxxx will be available for hopefully less?

32nm quads... if Intel wants my money they have to release one for s1156.
Friends shouldn't let friends use Windows 7 until Microsoft fixes Windows Explorer (link)

    *snip for space*
Valve should make Movieman the 11th class on TeamFortress 2.

It sounds like there keeping there current 45nm line up, so I see the 32nm as being priced higher because they can say there low power.

afaik all X58 mobos will support 32nm chips. Lucky people are already using 32nm chips on some X58 boards with the correct BIOS installed.
