Getting similar blue screens when I feed too little voltage, but dunno if its related.

Only real problem I've had so far is the buggy 2d clock if you oc via overdrive. Which got sorted with afterburner locking 3d clocks, not optimal fix but will do for now. (w7 32, cat 9.12 +hotfix)

Looks like it can be voltage related as well...

It's ATI's craptacular power saving feature in their craptacular drivers.

Just set your 2D clocks the same as stock 3D clocks and say good bye to a hell of a lot of crap. I've been having a nighmare with my watercooled 5970 and I'm pretty much 100% sure it's all driver related and has a lot to do with ULPS. ATI need to sort their $hit out with their drivers ffs.

I'm on my second 5870 and the only way I can keep this one from crashing(pinstripes) during games/benchmarks is to clock down the memory to below advertised speeds. Same as the last card.

i just rma'd my XFX 5870 back to newegg this morning. there is clearly something not right with these cards, and on many websites im seeing people have the same problems as everyone else. im not even sure if when they send me a new one in about a week or two, if im gonna keep it or throw it onto ebay.

Guys just try something, manually set you fan speed to say 40% and leave it there, reboot and do some tests....see if this stops the card from freezing/locking in both 2D and 3D. May seem silly but give this a try first.

Done this. Set it as high as 61% to no avail.

I tried that too, but I don't think it's temp related.

It's starting to happen more often to me now. FSX crashed with stripes 3 times last night. It's getting really annoying, because I hate having to do a hard reset, I'm afraid I'll damage the RAID array.

I hope ATi sort this out soon, or it's RMA time.

Imho I think this is a ram issue. The memory simply cannot handle the advertised clocks. I wish I could believe there was going to be some easy fix to repair a driver glitch or some small thing but it's just not looking that way.

Just put a fan over them and see what happens. Should give you similar results as sinks.

But tbh cant say they get very hot unless you have bad airflow and/or running tight cfx..

I just put a support ticket in with Gigabyte, not that I expect a quick answer, but this is starting to *&^% me off really badly.
I have to reboot the PC every 15 minutes when gaming. I'm tired of looking at those damn stripes.

Oh, and I used GPU-Z to log to file last time, and the GPU reached a max of 64c under 100% load. Not sure about the RAM, but my card is about 1/2" away from a 230mm side intake fan, so I find it hard to believe it's overheating.

Try turning down the ram speed by 50mhz.

raise your fan speed to 50% can totally get rid off the crash, funny thing is that my 5870 at 900(core)/1250MHz(mem) randomly crash at 35-40% fan speed, but totally stabled at 1.005GHz(core)/1250MHz(mem) with 1.2v vcore voltage and 50% fan speed.

IMO this points towards the components just by the large "pack" of VRM's, that do not have any contact with the cooler, but is cooled directly by the GPU fan.

Cant find the thread where I saw it being mentioned atm (perhaps on another board), but its the marked ones in this pic:

I think you might be on to something there. I used Afterburner to create a profile with the mem downclocked to 1100, left the GPU at stock, and played the game that was persistantly crashing. Just played it for 3 hours without incident.
I'll do some more testing, but if thats the problem, the card will be RMA'd.
If it can't even run at stock speeds, then it's no good to me.

Wouldnt you think that by now ATI would have come and said that this is an OFFICIAL problem and that they should b working on it 2 fix it? as of yet i havnt heard ANYTHING from ATI/AMD about this problem...and that in it-self is rather concerning to me, what are your guys thoughts on this? I can make it happen in 2d clocks also...so i dont know why lowering the 3d ram clocks would help....

The catalyst guy is on vacations, and probably the rest of team also thinks that's it's holidays time (to tired to work).

AMD Forum is flooded with topics like this.

I hope the 2010 to be a great driver revelation from part of AMD.

I think there are a myriad of issues, some of which are driver related and some which are not. I have reached the conclusion however that my problem, and one that many others have, is that in the past there has been a buffer between the advertised clock and what the ram(&gpu) can actually handle.
I have come to believe that the manufacturers have simply pushed the limits of the ram on these cards. They are simply clocked higher than they can handle.
I am not convinced that a driver is going to fix my particular problem.

In other words what you pay for is what you get and no more(if you're lucky).

Because ATi is in no hurry to admit that they've clocked these cards too generously.

I had a 5770, not a single problem. I have a 5850 now, I have not had a single problem with it. I run F@H on the 5850 at clocks of 900/1200 and can throw any game at it without a single issue. I guess I should consider myself lucky.
Latest CATS and a Corsair 750 PSU. I'm just wondering if a few of you guys should consider dialing back your overclocks, on your CPU and GPU's to see if the problems your describing persist.

it would happen at stock on both, as it stands atm i havnt had any problems with it since i have found my 24/7 overclock on my cpu and ram, i do think that the memory runs insanly hot on them tho, i can't hold my finger on my cards mem for over a few seconds at 1435 and not much longer at 1325 they r right around 45-50 deg c....so ramsinks would help out the cause by a large margin, this is with a 120mm 100 cfm fan blowing across the top of the card also btw

No problems what so ever with my set up - chews through absolute anything I can throw at it. However, had something similar with my 4890s (CFX) and where my screen went greyish with stripes this summer. Turned out that RAM was "gone" and corrupted files on my OS disk. Anyone ran chkdsk to see?

Man this problem is driving me nuts. I can't decide if I should RMA mine. If only there was a way of knowing for sure if this was a hardware issue or a driver issue.

yeah, me too. I bought this 5770 because I wasn't able to find a 5870 and didn't want to be stuck with 2 weeks off work and no gaming card. Well, what a waste of £130. 2 weeks is up, and I havn't done much gaming.

I too wish I knew if it's a faulty card, or a driver issue.

I am so pissed at ATi right now...........
