What I'm wondering is if people still get the increased cursor, or am I the only one ?

It seems you've had an issue with driver uninstall since 9.11 driver. I would recommend

First, uninstalling the hardware in device manager
(or physically if you have other vga)
    Removing the drivers & software
Reboot, running a driver cleaner in safemode.
    Reboot, Reinstalling hardware.
Installing latest drivers (10.2 official or 10.3pre betas)

    in this order.

...and if you are still getting 2D errors try playing with the hardware acceleration slider in graphics properties.

I had zero issues with my 5970's after doing the complete uninstall + driver sweeper and then freshly installing 10.3 beta + that profiles thing. I don't use the unofficial overclocking stuff in Afterburner though.
No Aftrburner or OC, just uninstall & driver sweeper.

Thanks a lot. It seems the uninstalling through the device manager did the trick. I haven't been getting the big cursor or GSOD since the new driver install .

Just to add a little extra info...

I swapped my GSODing card with a working one from another friends PC. My card GSOD's in his pc, his card does not in mine. Both cards are XFX XXX 5870 editions and are running the same bios.

This confirms for me its a hardware problem - GSOD'ing card being RMA'd right now. I should add that in my case I can get rid of all instability and crashes by clocking down from default XXX clocks of 875/1300 to 875/1250 on the bad card. My friends card clocked and ran like a champ in my rig. I'm not convinced everyone seeing the GSOD is experiencing the same problem. GSOD could be a symptom of many different faults much as a BSOD is (a BSOD without text though would be just as useless).

Yeah, lots of GSOD's are memory related, be it system memory or videocard memory. I get them when my system ram is not 100% stable.

Okay guys, it seemed I cheered prematurely.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 to make sure no old drivers were left.
However, it seems I'm still getting the large cursor .

Edit: Just saw the 10.2 hotfix, which seems to make sure I don't get the big cursor anymore .

A guy over on TPU says
I had them with 10.1 until I switched my memory to run in ganged mode in BIOS. The crashing and big cursor went away after that.
Not sure what he means by that though.

    hey guys,
Can anyone explain what could it be?

This appears when I start my PC the first time in the day and when I open the media player.
This happens from 9.10 to Catalyst Catalyst 10.3 .

Hey guys, after getting my 5970 a few days back I got the chance today to sit down and start benchmarking, and what do I see when installing the drivers, lock ups, artifacts etc.

    THE SOLUTION!
The way to fix this is to start GPU-z and save your BIOS, open the BIOS up with RadTools and change the 2D MEMORY clock to 1000MHz! I also changed the GPU to 400MHz but still got lock ups, so im gonna try to lower the 2D GPU clock to 158MHz again, should work. Anyhow yeah, you have to manually flash the BIOS so that memory works in 2D on 1000mhz, then YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS anymore.

Download ATIFlash program, boot up to dos and type in
    atiflash -p -f 0 yourbiosname.bin

If Radtools wont save your file as .bin then change it manually to .bin, it works like you would have saved it in the program to .bin
    Good luck guys

    Hello !

I'm Spanish. Sorry by my bad English.

Yesterday arrived my new Sapphire 5850 and I installed it without problems in Windows7. Later, I installed MSI Afterburner to overclock card and I put vcore to 1,250 and 950Mhz on core and 1150Mhz on mem. I test it about 1 minute in 3dmark without problems and pressed "reset" on Afterburner to set default settings and system freeze. Later this, I can't enter in Windows with Aero activated because. If I enter without aero activated and activate manually, system freeze.

I uninstalled ati drivers and ms afterburner in safe mode, but had same problems.

Is my card faulty and I need to do RMA ?
