Venomous-X is prepared for 6-core CPU's with new "pressure vault bracket"

We just got the gods on Thermalrights Ultra 120 successor Venomous-X. Like we told earlier this week its totally redesigned since Computex and even though its still a tower cooler and doesn't look like a space ship it has some interesting stuff going on.

A new retention system that puts 40 ~ 70 lbs of pressure on the CPU and a new convex mirror finished base. We've gotten a few interesting pictures and also detailed information on our Swedish site so far, English version coming later today.

I didn't read anything about the pressure bracket in the old thread though.

It seems weird to me that this is the right way of increasing performance, instead of adding surface area or heatpipes.

Well that first one was just TR's teaser that everyone new about. This is the official details about the cooler and I thought it deserved its own post. But someone please move, or remove it if they feel necessary.

Edit: To clarify, this is unique details that, at this moment, has not been posted by anyone, anywhere else. :P

Is 40-70lbs really that noteworthy? If their sink needs the pressure fine, but lots of cooling block/sinks don't show any improvement with more pressure. And I thought Intel's socket rating was for a maximum of 75lbs?

And for the coin they show in the photo, I like how it comes complete with a punch-out center section. Why couldn't they have included that with the TRUE, which needs it?

    Great to hear.

Washer/penny mods and lapping have been a very popular way to increase TRUE performance for a long while now.

Yea it's basicly a TRUE that's lapped with better mounting and very minor shape modifications. Doing the mods to the original TRUE you could gain several degrees lower temp, which is a hard thing to achieve by simply redesigning the heatsink itself. This is a lot easier way to increase performance.

However I don't like the price premium, if it's true that it will be roughly same as a TRUE Black. As usual TR continues to charge as high as possible and depend on their reputation to be able to do so.

32nm Hexas actually run a lot cooler than 45nm Bloomfields.
So, nice to see a new air cooler, but the old ones will be just fine, thank you very much

If you listen closely I'm pretty sure you can hear the TR marketing crew giggling when you reach for your wallet. I appreciate the new mounting hardware but that is little reason to call this venomous and expect miracles.

i wonder if they are going to make that mounting adapter available to the public as they do the 1366 brackets. the copper true has a punch out in the center of the HS bottom plate that would allow for instant venomous for my copper true! also though w0onder if some people might go ape with that amount and break their socket? needs disclaimer!!

I have a pair of the first generation TRUE's on my dual 6 core and they work just fine. 39-41C at full load with 120x25mm 53cfm fans.
I do like the new mounts though. nice fix.

Unfortunately it's not, just the same stupid convex base with a mirror finish

Thermalright says this in the product sheet:

The base of the Venomous-X is also slightly convex. This design has been proven to design.....blablabla
    FAIL!

However, I like the new mounting-system

Well considering that the True and Megahalems were the top coolers with the same performance, when given the choice you would go with the one that had the better mounting system and that was the Megahalems.

Its a smart move to have fixed the main problem with their old cooler, its horrible mounting.
