    PC P&C 750w + 10 HDDs, dual socket F setup + 4 8/9800gt's - enough wattage, or not?

I'm messing around with my folding rig atm, and want to put 4 cards inside one computer... but I'm not sure if the PSU is powerful enough.

    Specs:

    ASUS L1N64-WS
    2x Opteron 2222
    4x1GB RAM
~10 HDDs (maybe 12, depends on a few things...)
    2x 8800gt 512mb
    1x 8800gt 1024mb
    1x 9800gt 512mb

The drives are for storage so they will idle most of the time, except the OS drive and one or two others (depending on file transfers/torrents etc). GPus will be folding 24/7 so I guess they willrun @ full power then.

Even though PC P&C is a good brand, this may be a little too much for a 750w... right? 60A singlerail.

tdp of those cards are at around 100w...x4 is around 400w more or less.... you'll be fine you won't draw near 600w...

The CPUs are 125w each (TDP), and 10-12 drives on top of that idling mostly won't make it go nuts?

Without doing the math my gut says no. Go for a 1000w or bigger.
I run a dualie with 4-73 gig SAS drives and a 260GTX on a PCP+C 750w and it's fine but thats a lot less load than you have.

I'm not sure which way the TDP figure is calculated (there are differing ways???) but 2222's are 95w.... even so for peace of mind, reliability and perhaps better efficiency I'd be looking at the 910w for this where it would likely run at around 60% output most of the time but could more easily handle everything you are proposing at full output

Edit...That said, Folding GPU's is not as hot as it used to be so maybe they are not running at full

    ok..during bootup...the videocards won't draw that much..it will be in 2d mode....the harddrives will be 20w..each at spin-up...say 200w for total hd

    bootup..prolly around 300w...more or less...

during folding..the harddrives will be running already...say 8w during access? idle is lower wattage....lets say 80w for the hd(all)

ever seen a quad 9800gx2? those are the same...

    minimum recommended for quad 9800 gx2 - http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html ..................a tt750....its got 60A

total during folding...400w(vc) cpu(prolly around 60w...folding don't burden the cpu that much) 30w(nb depending on which chipset) 80w(hd)

    total guestimation....600w(dc) ..how many amps? 600/12 = 50a

total guestimation from the wall 800w(ac) (at high load efficiency prolly around 75%)

    I ran Prime95+Furmark with 3x4850 + 4890,Ph2 955@3.8 (1.5v) on K9a2 and the Odin gt (PSU) was showing ~620w
peak.If it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger
