    Cheap DP single-core Opteron blade

    Link

Saw this over e-bay. Might not be a good cruncher (single cores), but I consider kind of a good find.

The general belief on another forum where these have been discussed is that their best value is for parts, that needing to add memory (and fan and HDD) will kill the deal.
    Sure sounds fun, though...

Wonder what the power consumption is like on those. Doubt it would be more economical than running a modern 45nm chip but indeed it would be damn fun to buy a stack of those. Too bad the memory was yanked.

If you had access to ram you could probably use a boot server, PXE, and mount volumes via NFS. Newegg has $23.49 for ram. Something cheap could be rigged for air flow over several of these. The CPU is 248 Opteron Sledgehammer. 2.2gz. $28 shipped and $56 for ram. $84. Guessing 4k-4.5k ppd. hmmmm

DO WANT! Someone with some spare money should buy like 100 of these and run Cluster Knoppix or something so only one HDD is required across the farm. Imagine the PPD... Probably around 500 per blade? More? That's 50kppd

1.5v,130nm,89w TDP per core (cpu) - same as a modern QC.
Electricity cost will be the main problem imo.

Will this function as a normal computer?
It looks like it'd be pretty sweet for surfing the net and whatnot and for $29 (I have ram, hdd and fans already)

Well I think you will also need a stronger video card if you can find one.
