Uhhh, who sold it to you?

It's not supposed to look like that. That looks like some weird ATI in house test card.

Actually this looks more like someone took the heatsinks from 5770 V2 cards and stuffed them on the 5970

    Uhh, that's weird, man.

I suppose, if it works, and it's just a fan problem - just put on an aftermarket heatsink, or water block.

Or you could take some more 5770 fans and bolt them on. Lol.

Also, another option is, give it to me.

Install the "normal" stock cooler or watercooler ... this looks a bit ... carzy.

    What about the temperatures?
I think the voltage transformers get no cooling.
I do not think that this can go well.

Looks like one of the early cards

What I would do is flash it with a new bios, and see if you get some sort of fan control back

Edit: But keep an eye on the pwm's if you do this

yes anyone remember the thread before these were released?? that was one of the top secret pics that got leaked thats a pre release card. so no fan control and incorrect clocks seems right. I would be happy I got a card like that and not try to alter it that card is worth far more than your regular 5970's imo

Pixel fillrate, Texture fill rate and bandwidth all seem a little low. Presuming that a 5970 is 2x5870 chips. As do the core and memory clocks

    5970 should be more like:
    Pixel fillrate: 46Gpix/s
    Texture fillrate: 116Gtex/s
    Bandwidth: 256Gb/s
    Core Clock: 725Mhz
    Mem Clock: 1000Mhz

    I'm confused, please enlighten me

This looks actually just like the preproduction model. And yeah the coolers are the same as the v2 5770 ... pictures of such card where seen before 5970 was officially released and even before the first 5770's v2 seen the light of the world...

//edit: sort of wonder how the voltage regulartors can stay alive with no passive heatsinks on them? Guess reducing the RPM of the fans would not be a good idea.

haha wonder what the voltage for 500mhz is? I like the open-air vrms. You could slap a watercooler and newest ASUS bios on that and goto town.

If that is true i am ultra happpy.....

CPUz may have read the shader count wrong, hell it looks very similar to the suppose to be 5950 leaked by hexus

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=21080

    Oooo i hope its a 5850!!!!!

    Well those currents are high.

According to my Sapphire 5970 and GPU-Z, The VDDC Currents are:

    VDDC Current: 1.7A
    VDDCI Current: 4.2A

    VDDC: 1.0375V
    VDDCI: 1.1000V

    Your currents are high.

EDIT: I wouldn't keep the card, but seeing as to how hard it is right now to get a 5970 I would baby it until they become more available. Then, find someone to take that one off your hands and get yourself a Sapphire or HIS model.
