SilverStone announces the Fortress FT02 chassis

Radeon HD 5970 compatible, launching in 2 weeks

As this year's holiday season unwinds from its climax over the past week and a half, many enthusiasts have been left wondering whether they have witnessed the full product offerings of the computer hardware industry, or if there is yet another wave of toys hiding under Santa's sleigh in some remote dimension of unawareness. We have already experienced the delay of Nvidia's Fermi architecture, the virulent paper launch of AMD's Radeon HD 5970, and the untimely delay of many capacitive multi-touch tablet notebooks and netbooks supporting Windows 7. If there is any product that can mend the heart of a truly patient PC hardware consumer this season after experiencing some unsatisfying, half-baked Black Fiday sales, it would have to be nothing other than the castle and fortress of the silicon hardware itself – the chassis.

Today, the company has announced the Fortress FT02 chassis, a work of art and aesthetics combining two of SilverStone’s most distinctive computer chassis breakthroughs – the unibody construction of the Temjin TJ07 introduced in 2005, and the 90-degree rotated motherboard design of the Raven RV01 from 2008. Several months ago, we were given the opportunity to review the company’s redesigned Raven chassis, the RV02, which has undoubtedly deserved our highest opinion of design ingenuity over the past several years of products we have witnessed.

    Thank you Silverstone!

I love inverted atx cases. I own a TJ06 and love it. These look top notch.

EDIT: I'm blind and half awake. Should have been inverted atx instead.

Nice, but would prefer it without ugly side window... White one is nice.

Looks Ok. Kinda funny that a selling point is 5970 compatibility though lol.

Well, I purposely added that point in to ensure readers that the chassis has at least 12.2-inches of clearance, which it does. In comparison, the Raven RV02 has exactly that amount of clearance, making it difficult to implement a water cooling loop simultaneously.

Yeah, I prefer Raven 2, too.
The interiors seem to be identical.

I like that the price is not redicules, and also the interior with the flip'd MB.

EDIT: Maybe I should show what I mean by that

that layout hasnt grown on me just yet..i do see some of the benefits..one being with long pcb video cards warping..i think this would help that along with the wires being easy to plug in being on the top..however it just doesnt appeal to me....maybe i need to see some mods that are kick arse to give inspiration..but im just not seeing what i want from a case there...

i like to build my own cases, and for my next i was thinking of doing a vertical PCI slot alignment, but at a slant, so the cards are not fully hanging, but also sitting on the mobo. theres alot of details i havnt decided on yet, like if ill do another massive WC system, or go smaller. but i know i like the idea of something new where the mobo looks like its being showed off on display.

Use a bit of imagination. You could plant a 280 mm rad directly on top of those intake fans (one end tucked beneath the psu and against the side panel so it clears the vgas and dimms), another 140 mm one in the 5.25 bays along with the pump and rez (or you can just shove the pump into empty HDD bays) plus a 120 mm on the exhaust. People are WCing their mATX builds for christ's sake and this is one big biatch of a case afterall.

I don't use a case for atx setups, but I like the minimal Silverstone and Lian Li designs. That brand badge on the front and the window is kinda lame though. I want something that looks like a generic and solid mac pro case.

I like the overall design, but I think it will look rather messy with lots of wires coming out of the top.

At least if they come from the back you can't see the buggers. but now they'll be everywhere

I like it, but I don't see why they're doing this weird layout lately.

ok none of the gfx has power cables to them and that rad is going to be fail, i mean.. its thinner then those fans.. like i said no room to oc, especially with a 5870/90 as literally no room to add a rad on top of those fans.

    poo case.
