    Mördarverket - another TJ07

    Mördarverket

    a.k.a. Dumbo

    Welcome to my worklog.
This is my first post here, and my first worklog, so bear with me.

This project of mine started out with me planning on putting in some watercooling in my current case, a Cosmos 1000. But I didn't really like the options. So I said to hell with it and went down the narrow path of Murdermodding... and ripped out my wallet.

I got my TJ07 back in July so I have already done some bits and pieces, regretted it, done it over again, pondered and tinkered and well moped about. Anyways, yesterday the last major component arrived from B-Ray. I finally decided to ditch my old 4870X2 when I saw the PowerColor LCS HD5870. I placed my order and ten minutes later they called from B-Ray and I thought; their out of stock, but no, they just wanted to make sure that I realised it was made for a liquid cooling setup. Apparently about ten customers had bought it without realising this fact so they called everyone ordering it. So here's the rundown of the hardware stuff:

    Computing bits:
    • Case: Silverstone TJ07 Black
    • PSU: Fractal Design Newton R2 800W
    • Processor: Intel Core i7 940 2,93 Ghz
    • Motherboard: EVGA X58 SLI LE
    • RAM: Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) 1600Mhz
    • Graphics: PowerColor LCS Radeon HD5870
    • HDD: Patriot Torqx SSD SATA 128GB, 2x Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB
    • Optical: Samsung SuperwriteMaster SATA DVDRW

    Cooling bits:
    • CPU Block: EK-Supreme - Acetal
    • GPU Block: EK-FC5870 - Nickel Acetal
    • Rad: XSPC RX360 with 3x Fractal Design Silent Series 120mm
    • Pump: Swiftech MCP 355 with EK-DDC X-Top rev. 2
    • Reservoir: EK-Multioption RES250 rev. 2
    • Tubing: XSPC 7/16" ID - 5/8" OD White Hose
    • Fittings & Adapters: Bitspower

    Case modding bits:
    • Backplate: MorderMod backplate, inverted ATX
    • Faceplate: MurderMod stealth
    • Cable sleeve, heatshrink, rivets and screws: MDPC-X

And for your viewing pleasure som pictures.

Case has got a new floor! No hammond boxes in sight...

    And a closeup.

    Working them wires.

Gotta hide the nasty red, yellow and black.

    Connector connected.

    The end result.

    That's a beauty!

Thanks for now and stay tuned!

Nah, that wouldn't fit the bill - the name that is. And an SSD? It's invested and received, a Patriot Torqx 128MB.

So thats a standard EK block on the Powercolor LCS 5870 then?

I was incredibly dubious about that model when I saw the price of it compared to other 5870's but if it is the EK block then its actually not that bad. Plus it saves the hassle of having to do it yourself which is always a bonus.

As far as I can tell it is. It would surprise me if they made a non-standard block for that one card.
Its a good price for it especially when considering that you don't void your warranty by ripping it apart. That's worth a penny or two...

    Presenting the PSU

Time for a long overdue update.
After three attempts at getting it right I think I got it.

First lets get rid of some crap and start over.

Cut the wires and extend them.

    Get some MDPC-X sleeve...

and heatshrink and cut it to length.

    Unleash some goddammit...and...

we've got ourselves a sleeved PSU.

Now wasn't that a walk in the park. And then you plug it in and jump-wire it and...nothing

    So I get hold of a PSU-tester:

and lo and behold after som jerking with the powercord:

If that's a Fractal Design PSU you're going to rage about the PCI-E setup if you haven't already sleeved it.
I know I did, they only have 4 pins in use at the PSU end, they use double wires in two of the pins and the rest is Y-splits.

Maybe if you put the first half of the PCI-E in one big sleeve and make them single sleeves at the end, that would solve the problem?

I know I had this problem with the first revision with yellow connectors.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck and that is some mean sleeving work!
    Looks great.

    Thanks for the .

Y-splitters do tend to mess things up don't they. They were the cause of my multiple revisions of sleeving the ATX cable.

I haven't sleeved the PCI-E cables yet, but yes I'll bundle all cables at the PSU end and sleeve individually at the VGA end.

Fortunately no. Solved it by using a considerable amount of force
