Intel Xeon W5580 work on Non server board?

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpu...em-ep-review/2

That review says the MSI Eclipse work with it, so does that mean other boards will work on it as well?

Im getting one for cheap wich i plan to resell but if it only works on server boards it won't be easy to sell.

    i would say yes..

i'm using Xeon E55XX on regular desktop board..

tested it on GA X58 UD3R and DFI X58 JR/DK..it works perfectly

Just make sure update your mobo BIOS to the newest one before you try it...

yes, it will.. Only difference between the 55xx series of cpu's(Gainestowns) and the i7's sold for single socket boards is the QPI..
Singles have one, 55xx series designed for dual socket boards have 2..
55xx's work in single socket also but not the reverse.. single QPI Bloomfield i7's won't work in a dual socket board.
That chip is worth a solid $1000.00 on ebay..
    Retails in the $1400-1600 range.

Are there any server board that will allow you to overclock and be dual 1366? Im getting two of these. Trading 1 GTX295 for 2 x of the W5580's

Yes i think i did as well. the 295 cost me $345 shipped. Already sold one of the W5580's to a friend for $400 and going to sell the i7 920 i have so $600 - 345 = 255 profit not bad.

yes, not bad, but not 'right"
Those W5580's are worth an EASY $1200.00 for the pair..EASY!
You sell those to the dualie guys and in reality a cheapo i7-920 is just as good as a W5580 for single socket work.. They will both do 4200 on good air so no benefit of using the expensive W5580 for single socket..
