i'm bottlenecked on vantage gpu score
Ummm This morning I hit:
VANTAGE
P22953
GPU 20314
CPU 37616
1030/1340 @ 1.350v on factory hsf
w/ i7 920 @ 3153mhz on CM V8
Still tweaking with it and then will bench the cpu which will increase my score. So I damn near hit 23k with 1,000 less mhz then your saying so..... for me. lol

The OP states nothing about not having PhysX on or off though.
I thought my scores seemed higher all of a sudden. LOL I forgot I turned it on. Honestly though according to the OP it doesn't matter. So its a loss for those that aren't running one and that isn't my problem!
P20310
GPU 20586
CPU 19636
1035/1340
With PhysX off.
P20323 (DIDN'T RESTART THIS TIME)
GPU 20599
CPU 19536
1039/1340
With PhysX off.
P20374 (RESTARTED)
GPU 20634
CPU 19630
1040/1340
With PhysX off.
I forgot all about PhysX being on.
Now PhysX isn't incorporated into Mark 06 correct?
Well anyway getting bored with overclocking the gpu since I've been toying with it the last 4 days trying to find the max sweet spot. The temps in the office keep changing as the day goes on. Best time to do it is early morning since we aren't running the ac yet here in Texas. So the window on the side stays open to draw air in and the window in the back is open to pull it out. Then the ceiling fan is on. I'm wrapped up in a throw right now because the air off the fan is freaking cold.
So yea I started in on the cpu to 200x20 which is actually 200x21 since I have to bench this CM V8 to its max then change it out to a Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme and test that until I go water. So bumped the i7 920 to 4.2 and ran Vantage again with physx off gpu 1030/1340 @ 1.350v Max temps on cpu were 77C and gpu 69C with fan at 100%.
P22276
GPU 21303
CPU 25812
This was after several passes trying to get a stable overclock on the gpu since the temp in the room has increased. So I'll restart and run a fresh pass at the above settings and see what happens.
interesting the cpu score dropped after a restart.
P21682
GPU 21343
CPU 22770

Well, physx isn't officially supported with ATi cards so it's a given that it's not included. If it was, some of us would be posting 50k+ cpu scores. The way that you presented your score, saying that it was faster at lower clocks without mentioning physx being enabled comes off as a bit.....
nice runs though for air.

Details were good enough to make the point. Although I didn't know Physx was going to bring up a tissy about it. I also didn't post a screen considering I'm still dialing in for the cherry overclock with score/clock/voltage ratio. At that time I will post a ss. Otherwise I'm just filling up forum bandwith using unnecessary space.
Well Physx can function with ati no matter if its "officially supported" or not. so I didn't know there was going to a big issue with using it. Nor did I even notice I had it on. Like I mentioned I wondered why my score jumped so high between tests from one evening till the next day. I completely forgot that I setup the 9800gt I have with the Physx driver patch. So when I benched and went from the 20k mark to 22k the next day I was like what the heck is going on.
Its all good though. I'll eventually hit the prime spot on the gpu and post up a ss of it. I'm working on the best time of day to bench and it seems really early in the morning. The evenings here are muggy and mid day well its just to warm. I haven't been waking up as early as I would like so maybe its time to set an alarm so I can get up when its nice and fridgid in the office and actually hit the max stable clock then work on turning the voltage down.
Haven't toyed with clocking back voltage, but on air this is about all she will do. I've occasionally gotten higher core up to 1040 stable although not getting it now since its already warmer today. The ram pretty much tops at 1340 I believe. I haven't once been able to get it over 1340 stable. The cpu is at its max under a CM V8 unfortunatly so I will test more under the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme I have sitting here when I get a chance to unhook everything and pull the board. The case I'm using right now doesn't have an access slot :-( BURN for me.
Well anyway here she is:

I can't figure it out how to make the 5870 stable at 1ghz.
IF I OC to 1Ghz with 1.2875 vcore, the core is stable but the mem at stock are unstable.
Playing STALKER CoP around one hour causes GSOD. Sometimes brown screen of death.
Temps were fine. If I remember correctly, I had, according to gpuz:
70-72c core
85-87c mem
86c shader
vrm 74c 74c 74c 78c.
But if I decrease the core clock down to 970 with 1.2875vcore, everything went stable.
Anyone knows what causes gsod? particularly stalker CoP is gsod sensitive.
Are u running the air cooler or water with those temps? To hit the higher clocks while I was benching I had to up the vcore more then that just running the Kombustor app with afterburner. So that could be the stability side of things although if your fan is on low or med that might not be enough for the higher clocks The high 80s on the mem and shader could be causing the instability. I know it doesn't like core around 80 thats for sure it would dump 3d mark each time. So I said screw it and bumped the fan from 60% to 100%. Its annoying, but allows to bench for max oc on the card. I don't intend to run it above stock for gaming since its plenty fast out of the box.
It's on air, but 980/1200 works across all games I've tried and it's 1h stable with GPU tool's artifact scanner.
Core temps fan settings
75c - 50%
74c - 45%
73c - 43%
I'll change the stock thermal pads to new and report later how much better they are in temperature. I hope I get the pads on Friday
Most likely memory overheating...
I put ramsinks on my crossfire 5770's (samsung) and when I had a fan over them + the ramsinks I was able to do 1425 on the memory but without them I was stuck around 1300. Heating up the core heats the memory too, and due to poor cooler/PCB design the hotter the core gets the hotter the ram gets.

Can the normal bios flash if I 5870CF or otherwise?
what version of msi afterburner do you guys use to oce?
fyi- AFE works for GPUv+ 1.35v on the 5770 too..
Gorod: Very Nice, those are some the highest overclock settings I've seen for a stock cooler. You must have a good card or something.
I've noticed that with my 5870 once I hit a certain point in overclocking the performance starts to go down in vantage/3dmark/cinebench numbers. The sweet spot for me seems to be around 1000vcore and 1300mem. at 1.3v or so. maybe I should start feeding it some more volts?
