crysis wars? i don't see crysis wars in the reviews - only crysis warhead... plus both reviews include gtx295 results as well, so comparing these results with the 5970 in the same review is more reliable than comparing to results you get, isn't it? apples to apples imo.

up to 1920x1200 the results are pretty good though, however it looks more like 2x5850 than 2x5870... seems like the extra shader cores don't help at all and the lower clocks kill the performance somehow. on the other hand i think they just lowered the clocks to meet the 300w specs of pcie.

I'm going to wait for some more reviews and to see what XS people can do to it. I had higher hopes for the 5970 and the downclocking bummed me out a bit. But if it doesn't work out there's always two 5870s.

Wait for real results on these cards. The second link(hardwarezone.com) hit 800MHz core 1100MHz memory.. I'm guessing there is an CCC limit like the 4870x2. The cores are good for 1GHz, we just need software to accomplish this

the second review hit a limit and crashed, not a CCC limit. they mentioned they believe drivers are causing problems

    Hello buddy,

the server overloaded, the site is being moved right now to new machine, should be up in about 2 hours. We didn't expect such an influx of visitors guys, i had to call the hosting company at 1 o'clock in the night to fix it .

PS: and yea, it was an Intel-based server, maybe it got angry.

Why does the 5970 perform better than crossfired 5870s in Dawn of War II?

Also, I heard the 5970 has unlocked CCC, there's no limit on overclocking for it.

    yep, it's unlocked.

But, the guys in the second review hit that limit because maybe they left the voltages at stock, which are lower than stock 5870 (maybe, they didn't say how they OC-ed the 5970).

I bet they left it stock. Also see the power draw. Only 40 watt higer then a HD5870. Thats why ATi kept the clocks low. To make this card overclock well you have to upp the voltages on the cores. I wont be suprised if the core voltages are even lower then on the 5850 cards. (close to 1.0v)

So the card is as long as rumors suggested That is kind of a kick in the pants.

Still a better bet than 2 5850s if you have the room I suppose.

I personally still feel that thees cards are being held back somehow... They don't seem to be the improvement then should be, on paper anyways. Hopefully scaling gets a swift kick in the pants over the next few driver releases ( and if my 4870x2 experiance is any indication, I expect they will )

lets hope they sort the drivers out for these 5970 because they havn"t with the 5870-5850 drivers are a abit of a performance hit!
