    BloodRage cold boot problem..

Pretty simple, when I do "cold boot" eg. first start after PSU has been switched off for some time.. it simply doesnīt boot.

Lights came on, but POST display doesnīt.. then I just switch it off (by holding power button for few secs) and start again.. and then it works (no OC recovery, just works as I set it.

Any clues why? Cause its bit wierd to me, that it just doesnīt boot at first time, but then its fine..

Yea and my system is 100% stable.. (Linx/OCCT and most importantly few days of crunching at 100% CPU )

Edit: Anandtech (if my memory doesnīt fail me) had similar problem with all of their review samples..

Try removing the PSU from power for a couple hours and see if it does it still.

Are you using P09 or G25? I didn't notice the problem at all until then.

I'm using P07, if I've had the psu power switch off, when I press the button to start it, it powers on for a second then back off, after a 4 or 5 second pause boots normally.

P09... yea, Iīve noticed that after new one.. tough, I tried P06 today.. doesnīt seem to do any difference. Not big deal, just bit annoying if you need to start PC twice..

More irritating is "Clock interrupt from second core didnīt bla bla in time.." .. either is my CPU dying or I donīt know..

When I switch either one of my last psu's I would get the oc recovery. I saw a post a while back with something similar. It didn't really bother me so I didn't look any further but it happened with a corsair HX1000 watt and my new enermax evo galaxy 1250 watt. It has happened with every bios I have used (P06, G25 and P09).

Foxconn says (well, NL RMA center) that I should try G30 BIOS and see if that helps = they are as clueless as we. Btw. if Iīm correct, G30 doesnīt work with anything else than i9, right?

Edit: Problem is caused by high BCLK.. it boots fine at 133.. Iīll try to play with some settings.. maybe Iīll figure something.

    OMG! Thats insane!

I use to power down the psu b4 at night cause the l.e.d.s inside hit me right in the eyes. I just twisted my comp a bit. The power thing doesn't bother me too much though. What bothers me is the evga e758 motherboards take a very long time to post especially after powering unplugging the psu. I hate working on my friends pc just for that reason.

im at 166-200bclock and it works fine for me...?
if i switch off the psu for a couple of hours or days the first boot will fail, the board will shut down after just 2 seconds and then post again and... from there it works... never even get to oc recovery. psu is seventeam 850W...

hmmmmm what vtt setting do you use?
increase IOH voltages to 1.3v and see if that changes anything... some cpu/board combos need higher IOH volts to cold boot with high vtt for some reason... i get the same problem as what you describe if i increase vtt to 1.5v... board will not boot, no debug led code displayed... have to turn off the board and wait for a few seconds and power it on again, then oc recovery kicks in.

Problem is CPU and related volts.. Iīm aware of that.. as usually fault isnīt on mobo side, even when all expect it is. (noticed that thing, that all ppl assume its mobo and almost always its something different? ) Poor BR..

Yup, at BCLK 160 - increased VTT +40mV (280 instead of 240) and boots fine. Its stable for work even on 240, but it simply wonīt boot at first cold try..

Only boot issue I have using P09 is when restarting it hangs at the sas controller for some reason, using a Patriot SSD on the port.

Plug something else into SAS, it will work, just switch it with that Raptor of yours. Or buy PCIe SATA addon card. Theres high probability that problem is cause by your SSD not board. Patriot SSDs are everything just not good choice. Donīt know how you choose HW, but I usually read some reviews before buying something.. unless Iīm 99% sure that its good.

hmmm yeah wasnt it patriot that sent one ssd model to reviewers and then sold a completely different ssd with the same name and even product code?

still, odd that it hangs... only sometimes or all the time?
what if you use the intel ICH10 sata ports?

Update on my Post. I unplugged my comp everyday last week due to bad thunder storms and I haven't had the cold boot problem again. I did change some settings since the original problem mainly memory setting..... idk if this helps.

Just found this post and will try your suggestions. I have the same cold boot issue - first boot fails, second boot reverts to 133 FSB.... I have to access the BIOS and save the settings again, then it boots normal. Windows restart works always o.k. System is 100% stable at 200x21. BIOS P09.

Those are my current voltages :

    CPU Core Voltage ..................: +60mV
CPU Target Core Voltage ...........: 1.31V (1.29V cpuz)
    CPU Vdroop Compensation ...........: disabled
CPU VTT (UnCore) Voltage ..........: +100mV

    X58 IOH Core Voltage .............: 1.20V
    X58 IOH VCCA 1.1V ................: 1.116V
    X58 IOH VCCA 1.5V ................: 1.506V
    ICH10 SB Voltage .................: 1.506V

    DRAM Voltage ......................: 1.65V

That was giving me a hard time... I tried many voltage and memory settings without success.

Then i disabled overclock recovery and now it works

Looks like a hiccup with this feature. Btw i also tried tRFC 92 and don't see an option to revert back to auto. What's the trick there ?

Maybe you need to scroll to max.. (or set it to 511 and them scroll?).

Iīll try OC recovery.. thats one thing I didnīt tried.

well ocrecovery is supposed to notice if the system hangs when you pushed it too high, and reboot with safe settings so you can adjust the bios settings instead of having to reset the bios. it also checks voltages, if some voltage jumps too much, goes too high or low, itll reset the rig and load safe settings too...

the latter seems to cause problems with some powersupplies, as the board is too picky about voltages beeing stable.
i dont wanna blame the psus, and it wouldnt make sense since there are very nice psus that still have probs with br...
so maybe br reads voltages from the psus in a way that fluctuations get amplified and thats why its so picky... not sure...
