Would depend on the game, but most likely no won't make much difference imo.

Probably not. 275 to 5870 is worth it though, at least it was in my case. I run at 2560x1600 res.

I have a gtx285 and im swaping for a HD5850 .. gona OC it to 900 24/7 on a scythe MUSASHI and there you go !

Gona use my GTX285 on my HTPC since im running Games on a 1080P screen.

Like its been told, GTX275 vs HD5850 its about 15% faster. Something nice !

Smartest thing! I have a 5850 oc'ed to 1100core/5200mem(watercooled) and it beats my previous 4890crossfire setup. I would totally move to a 5850 and having a possibility to add a second one. Best Buy choice!

Horsesh*t. My stock clocked 5850 was faster than my GTX 285 overclocked and the 285 is faster than the 275.

Yes, because one is more awesome that the other.

    OR

    Because of this:

    (Yes you're reading it right, thats not a 275, that's a 285)

exactly perkam, the 4890 is 3 FPS slower, so how would 2 4890's still be slower than one 5850?

Remember that its also a DX11 upgrade. OP is gona be rdy for DX11 + a futur HD5850 CF. This would leave him at least 1+ year ( i hope ) of gaming with only a HD5850 to add later.

4890 scaling, iirc, won't get them to the oc'd 5850 levels, and the fact that his 5850 is overclocked much more than this review.

so you are telling me that a lowly 4870x2 is now faster than 4890 in crossfire? so according to this new math 4890's in crossfire are slower than a 4870x2 and a 5850, even though all logic and reviews, and personal tests show the opposite?

I dont think crysis/crysis warhead are the best benchmarks to use

I didn't say it wouldn't be an improvement. The question was is it worth it to upgrade. At 1920x1080, I think a GTX275 suffices. It's not worth paying the price premium for a 5850 when pretty much everything is still playable at max on your current card apart from Crysis.

not at stock. the guy you quoted says his 5850 at 1100/5200 watercooled is faster than his 4890 CF.

    sounds believable to me

hmm well maybe it is true, I just don't see how it is possible. I have yet to see a 5870 be faster than 4890 crossfire, but this 5850 is? I am so confused.

FAT NO!, not worth the hassle, price or it's ugliness, plus there's no apps to run and with the developers being so console biased chances are there won't be anything substantial for a longtime... i would even go as far as to say not until next generation of consoles are out! Nvidia fanboy i'm, i was going to say wait and see what Nvidia has to offer, but by the looks of this drought on PC gamers, its a FAT NO!

Btw was going to upgrade for MW2 to get some nice FPS, but with consoles commands being out i think the frame rates are capped so it would be pointless.

    I personally went from an 8800GT to a GTX275 to a 5850 then to a 5850 + 8800GT for PhysX and now I have a GTX 295.

The upgrade from the 8800GT to the GTX275 was huge. (I even tried them both together after the 5850, not that great)

There was a small performance increase going from the 275 to the 5850, but I lost PhysX (and missed it) so I added the 8800GT.

That was a pain in the ass and I decided I did not want dual graphics cards, so I went with the GTX295. So far I am happy.

I use 3DMark Vantage and Batman Arkham Asylum as my benchmarks.

*edit - with the scarcity of HD58xx stuff right now, and the lack of DX11 titles (and proof of its value) I would stick with the 275 unless it's not able to keep up with your demands. (I'd add a second 275 before I switched to a 5850)

    get a 5870
and batman is kinda pointless as nvidia has blocked AMD from AA, so basicly it sould NOT be trusted as a *benchmark*
