Verizon probably wont have their 4G(GSM) network ready until 2011, delays by the 4G chipset makers for the handsets have pushed back everything 6 months.

what do you guys think of this phone versus the droid eris? my brother has the droid and says its great, but do you think its worth the extra cash over the eris?

the droid's bigger screen/res are pretty attractive though...

    Honestly? Two completely different devices.

Droid is Motorola with a Qwerty
Eris is HTC without a Qwerty

I love HTC and all, but afaik... the processor in the ERIS is slower than the one in the Droid, not to mention a smaller screen and no Qwerty.

Actually, snapdragon is a CPU for phones.
They have WM6,5 version, it's called HD2 with SnapDragon cpu.
There are some rumors about HTC Bravo, Android based HTC phone with Snapdragon, I think it's in HTC roadmap for 2010.

I realize that, but is the physical qwerty keyboard really worth the extra $100?

And sure the Eris' processor is slower, but I've used both phones and they seem to perform about the same.

I wouldn't say the performance or keyboard is worth the $100 alone,,, but those together + the larger better screen = win.

    I am missing something.
Why are you even comparing these two phones?
Here's some facts droid vs eris.
    Screen: 480 x 854 vs 320 x 480
3.7inch TFT capacitive vs 3.2inch Capacitive
    Adroid: 2.0 vs 1.5
    CPU: ARM Cortex A8 550 MHz processor vs Qualcomm® MSM7600™, 528MHz
    Camera: 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, dual-LED flash vs 5.0 MP w/ Auto Focus
Do I need to go on?
I also noticed that eris is verzion only type of deal?

They are being compared because they are Verizon's only two Android based options at this time. I really liked the Eris but the screen is what really sold me on the Droid. Nothing else.

Move your current icons to the trash. Long press on the home screen > shortcuts > and choose either Contact, Direct dial or Direct message. The 2.1 launcher gives you 5 desktops as well It's pretty awesome but it seems to crash the phone quite a bit. Better to just wait for the 2.1 OTA... if it ever comes.

Also another app I've found to be pretty cool is home++. Gives you a different looking homescreen and gives you up to 7 home screens

alrighty i've got a pretty good handle on the phone now. it's amazing. one thing though, do u guys notice that to start a text you have to touch the "type to compose" section a few times in a row. sometimes as many as four times for me before the keyboard will slide up.. it's annoying
