    Team Challenges

I saw that our team had not done any team challenges yet. I think we should do some of them, just for the fun of it

Against whom would we do a challenge? The two teams in front of us would wipe us into the dust on daily PPD. There's no other challengers behind us that would be stupid enough to take us on....

EasyNews has been our traditional opponent. (Ranked #2) I could see us taking them on. Team 2CH, well that ain't gonna happen unless we get more than double our contribution.

LMK if you have any ideas on this. I'd be game for challenges too. I just don't see it for us....

    Regards,
    Bob

So I'm sitting here thinking ... what do I need a challenge for ... I already crunch my rigs 24/7 ... and then it dawns on me ... the challenge would be to see if we can incent other teams to produce more.

Now, to Bob's point, what teams would even bother trying, wouldn't it take all the fun out if they new they couldn't win ... and then I had another thought ... how about we create a Team XS challenge ... basically we challenge all the other teams to see if they can beat us in combined points? I have not researched WCG challenge participation levels, a just a quick, off the cuff thought.

Other than that I would support participating in a challenge.

OK more crap coming ouch my mind ... how about a different type of performance challenge altogether ... they have them for points, runtime, and results ... how about a challenge to raise points per hour? Likely only another tech team would understand why / how to appraoch this but maybe we could use it to spread some "smart crunching" tips ... heck we might even learn something from another team :-)

What if we had a team challenge. Divide the XS team into 2/3 teams and see who has the highest points after a set amount of time.

(This would be kinda like what the F@H team did last year)

Not a bad idea. We should be able to approach this w/o any problem. And hell yes, we should get some of their crunching strategy.

I would have thought the most important/ultimately rewarding challenge is in getting people in who are new to distributed computing.

    How about a recruiting challenge?

    Just a thought

Well, I think challenges are for a purpose also. It can help encourage our team to generate more points, thus contributing more

Why don't we try it? It won't hurt

No, I'm pretty sure they're saying that no "challenge" could add or subtract from the worth of WCG. It already has meaning.

Yes I know the point. I said let the challenge be to pass easy news, which hopefully would bring in more people. Rammie said EasyNews doesn't matter.
