Intel Core i7-930 arriving Q1 2010

This means Intel will still be supporting the 1366 chipset with CPU's besides Gulftown. It makes you wonder what else they will be releasing.

How do you know that? I really hope it's based off Westmere and not Bloomfield. My 920 has a damaged IMC and occasionaly does not POST, I need a new one. A Westmere based 930 would be just the ticket.

It's probably 21 (2.8GHz).

I just bought a 920 less than a week ago ($200 from Microcenter), and it's not a great stepping (3931A318) so I'll probably end up returning it or selling it and waiting for the 930. It will be worth it if it ends up being 32nm.

when Intel moves to 32nm in a few months they will open with entry level dual cores but also extreme Gulftown 6 cores which will leave mid level quad cores in business which they have a lot of in stock . I think it's logical that we won't see 32nm quad cores for a long while, they have so many quad core models out there it's unbelievable, there are 6 quads at 2.66Ghz only (Q8400,Q8400s,Q9400,Q9400s,i7-920, i5-750)

Common sense. They would have been shouting it from the rooftops by now if they had a 32nm quad ready for Q1. There is no change in nomenclature either, baring the one implicating a higher multi. It's a Bloomfield plain and simple.

Check your receipt, the Microcenter here in Denver changed their return policy, now you can only exchange certain items, no refund, and that is for a like item. Not sure if it was a company wide call, but with as much as they under cut online retailers on certain items it would only make sense.

Well, to be honest, I don't see a point unless it's 32nm... All multis are well covered by 940, 950, 960... BS article perhaps?

I don't think so, there has to be some i7's which don't make the grade for 950 but go way past the 920 grade.

What can I say, their roadmaps are pretty clear and although the 930 isn't specifically mentioned, to counter AMD closing the gap by raising CPU clocks (C3 looming => PII 975?) it seems pretty logical to me Intel would do some speed bumping of their own.

Yep you are right. I thought the guy said something about a 30 day period, but it turns out that you can only exchange it if it is defective.

I'll probably just end up putting it up on Bit-Tech or eBay.

That return policy on cpus and motherboards is no different than it has been. I pulled an old MC receipt I have from Feb. 2008 and the return policy is exactly the same as it is on the receipt from stuff I purchased at an MC last Friday....so there's been no change at all, really.

Sometimes calling and talking to the manager can help. I've had them take stuff back well past the return deadline. Even returned a cpu with the ihs lapped and popped.

Well with the 960 intel bumps the bus to 135 to reach 3.2GHz (24x135) on the 24 multiplier. so if the 930 is going to reach 2.88GHz and not 2.83GHZ (21x135) the end clock will be 2.877GHz (21x137) with intel rounding up to 2.88Ghz.

I think the main reason for the i7 930 is that the i7 920 is actually slower than the i7 860 at stock speeds. The i7 870 compares to the i7 960. I'm not keeping my hopes up for Westmere, but damn, if it is...

AMD would be really screwed.
