New xtreme low-voltage kits by G.Skill

G.Skill has now revealed the first products in its new ECO memory line, six dual channel memory kits for Intel Lynnfield-based systems (AM3 PCs should work great with these too). Coming only in 2 x 2GB configurations, the ECO kits feature modules that operate at 1.35V - less compared to other Lynnfield kits (1.65V) and JEDEC-standard DDR3 memory (1.5V), and produce 16% lower temperatures.

even first gen ddr3 from elpida and micron (dont know about others) could run at 1.35v, and even at fast enough speeds... but this is nice:
    - 4GB (2GB x 2) PC3-12800 | 1600 MHz | 7-8-7-24 | 1.35V
not bad... not bad at all!

Those are some pretty sweet voltage requirements for the speed. I wonder whether it is an offspring from smaller process memory manufacturing techniques or whether they're just super-binned. I'm hoping it's the latter, I would love to see more of this type of equipment out there.

Any news on the ICs? Its tempting to say theres some real binning on that product lineup.

9-9-9 and 7-8-7 latency kits, same voltage!

its nice of you that you want to give everybody a headsup, and im sorry to hear you had probs with your mem, but yes, the problem was most likely not related to gskill at all...

the latest and greatest ddr3 chips are from elpida, and they had some serious manufacturing quirks with some batches. all memory vendors who used those chips had kits die after minutes to months...

these kits seem to be based on elpida mem as well...
im curious if they scale the same, worse or better with high vdimm than normal kits
from my experience id say they probably scale the same...

I am going to take a wild guess on the IC's.... http://en.expreview.com/2009/10/09/e...html#more-5407

ble 3x4gb pls... i want to replace my 6x2gb.

Though it took em long enough to get the "new" DDR3L jedec standard rolling.

There need to be more manufacturers that sell 4gb modules, right now they only one available are the gskill ripjaws.. and none with the DDR3L standard.

oh elpida went 40nm? that would explain they their net profits rose that much and they finally stopped bleeding money:

its not only elpida, micron also sees a raise in income in there q4.

Though they are still in the reds, there gross margin raised considerably. Wouldn't be suprised if they also see a profit next qtr.
Most of the memory comapnies finaly shifted there production capacity to ddr3, away from the money draining grave yeard aka ddr2, afaik micron had there crossover somewhere in middel of 2009.

i hate with a passion that power consumption bumped down a few watts is marketed as "green" or "eco". seriously, memory sticks hardly suck any power already and going from 1.65v to 1.35v will probably save at most 1 watt (and this is a very generous estimate). "green" hard drives also save only a few watts. it only takes 1 cruncher or folder to replace the power saved from hundreds of these eco drives and memory sticks. there are much better ways to save the environment.

these do look like awesome sticks because of the speed at that voltage, but the marketing is just lame

Yes but that is the current bandwagon that everyone is jumping on. TBH I'd rather run my PC on pigsh*t fumes, algae, sunlight, wind, waves and recycled carbon waste than more finite resources because coal, oil, gas and uranium are going to run out eventually and keep getting more expensive and being fought over until someone finds a cheap way of doing one of the above on mass and on the cheap. We're all going to die when Yellowstone blows so why worry about what a few gigatons or carbon dioxide is going to do in the meantime.

From the xtremist point of view, and to get this post back on topic, that 16% saving is 16% less heat dumped in your case and on your motherboard holding back your overclock.

Should be fun playing around with stuff on that process size if the reliability is there.
