Nod32 here Really good, as Kaspersky.
A useful URL (in french, sorry ^^) to compare Avast, Antivir and AVG : http://forum.malekal.com/avast-antivir-avg-t11659.html
Ok it's from 2008, but the informations given there are still really interesting (as the entire forum, I suggest all of you to read it if you understand french )
Wierd compare :S I tried Nod32, Avast, AVG and Antivir... Nod32 is SUPER passive av, don't detect many viruses. Antivir pretty good but had bsod with it, AVG like nod32... Avast is cool. Its like install and forgot... Updates every day, detect all and give you option what to do with it xD

Try AnVir Task Manager. It shows everything running on a computer. I've been using it for about 4 or 5 years on a couple of pc's, and I've been really happy with it

Eset Smart Security here, although every few weeks I'll try something else for a few days (I have to have an intimate understanding of all packages for work ). For paid software I can't think of better, for free I heartily recommend Avast 5.

Combination of MSSE and the occasional run of Malwarebytes Anti Malware keeps my system clean as a whistle.
If I'm a danger to myself just think what I could do to you.
I used AVG for a few years when it was version 6 but picked up a virus which it couldn't get rid so i had to re-install windows Now I use Avast and I've had no problems for 2 years or so.
I put it on all my rigs and any rigs which come to me for repair.

Personally I would try and find out what is the most commonly used antivirus and that provides feed back to its developer. A modern antivirus needs to be able to send user feedback on the threats that it finds so that the developer can keep you up to date. I use AVG and its residant shield has caught a few nasty little critters for me.
Nod32 Smart Security
I know I've already posted, but I'd like to update.
I'm now using KIS 2010 and couldn't be happier about this "total solution".
I add Malwarebytes for extra scanning duties, especially useful to keep on a flash drive to use on other people's computers in safe mode.

Yea i used to work for a company that use Trend and they got viruses all over thier server ALL THE FREEKING TIME!! Trend micro is a pile of DOG SHIZAZLE!!! It got to the point that I would purposefully open attachments bwecause i knew thet Trend Micro WASNT going to catch it. I kept telling the IT guy to switch to a different prog but he wouldnt. I think I am personally responsible for about 10-12 different infections and half of them were by opening email attachemnts just to prove the IT guy was an idiot for using Trend Micro.
My comp at work kept getting infected and I had to use Mcaffee online to clean it.
At home, I subscribe to ESET NOD32 and have been virus free for years. And I surf a tremendus amout of :banana::banana::banana:o and haxer sites!!

Boy that info was old. As am I. Currently my kids have taken over my desktops. They are both sporting matching GTX1080's. Last Christmas I got everyone Oculuses and thus GTX1080's. My eldest is some sort of CSGO champion gold label something or other. Me I work and shoot real guns. Build Comps as needed.
