    Here we go again

Got the 260 (192) back from RMA. Got the older version with back cover so was hoping for better luck. Failed first WU with a driver reset. So now begins the "try all the different driver versions to see if one works" crap.

Downloading 191.07 now. If it fails then will go back to 185.xx. That fails trying it on F@H. If that fails

if it makes you feel better my 192 doesnt even run gpugrid. it errors packets around 30-40% through. have you tried driver sweeper? i tried switching through a bunch of drivers and it started failing packets for every project.

I played LOTRO for an hour or so and did ok. It is on 2nd WU on GPUGrid, will see what happens. Download for 191.07 was very slow and has just finished so not tried it yet. Since it is an older card if 191.xx does not work I will try 185.xx and then 181 and F@H. All that fails I may try it on one of the Linux boxes.

I will be happy if I can get it to be reliable with either GPUgrid or F@H and LOTRO.

When I change drivers I use da Goose secret sauce. Delete from Windows Device manager checking remove drivers. Boot safe mode and run Driver Sweeper. Also delete nvida folders.

If all it will do is play games I will do as Shadow said and sell it as a game card letting buyer know the problems I have had. I will not RMA again. Another 2 weeks and $13 shipping, nope.

Always appreciate suggestions guys as I forget alot. I think I have memory problems, I can't remember for sure though. As per Jack's link they are making special WUs just for 260s since so many have problems with their WUs. They know what the code is that causes them to fail so are going to leave it out or do it another way.

After the driver reset I disabled PhysX, thought I read somewhere it can cause problems. Anyone confirm that?

    Cheers!

GDF said it was all up to ATI to provide the tools and they would support ATI cards as soon as they could. I did not see a time frame mentioned.

    This should help too.

Played LOTRO for 3 hours tonight and no problems. Installed 185.85 as could not remember anyone saying 191 fixed any problem they had except for a few games. If this WU crashes I am going to put it on F@H until the new WUs are available. Of course those new work units will not run on my 2 that have been flawless.......people wonder why I get so cranky.

After 4 tries, all 576x WUs, it finished a WU and now working on a 5792. Will let it run on F@H until they get the 260 queue and WUs setup and come back and try it.

The good news is that is SEEMS to play LOTRO ok so the other 2 260s can run 100% of the time and one not shutdown to play LOTRO. So points should still go up some. Unless there is a multi-gpu penalty running 2 GPUs in one system.

hmm sounds like its hammer time but i like this better, Pops if you sell that card and kick in a little more later on, for a 275 i think you will have better luck going that route.

Has done 9 F@H WUs and about 6 hours of LOTRO with no problems. Some of the WUs were the troublesome 576x. The failed ones were all the same WU. May still be a bit early to say so but looks like might be a good card.

their home page is definitely implying that it will support ATi. i could easily see a red square right next to the green nV square. it will be interesting to see performance. it wont have the problems f@h does.

Installed 191.07, got several driver resets and failed WUs. Since the failed WUs are 576x I am not too concerned, yet. On EVGA forums some good things were said of 191.07. Played another 3 hours of LOTRO tonight and still good so hopefully changing the driver won't effect that.

Finally got the 192 on Linux. Ubuntu 9.10, Boinc 6.10.17, 185.18 drivers. As soon as it starts a WU PC freezes with lines across screen.

    Going to sell it.

GDRs latest statement on GTX 260:
For the 260, we have not done anything yet as there are people which can run on it.
I take that as they have decided not to try and "fix" the broken 260s as not all are broken.
