i think based only on physics youd have to see a change.

if the air is X and the water is X+5C (called Y) and the CPU is Y+5C (called Z). then in this case your CPU would always be X+10=Z and always 10C above any air temperature you have. this is how we get a C/W curve or ratio (once CPU Watts are known). it should not matter what the air temp is, your C/W ratio is constant as long as airflow, waterflow and pressure do not change.

unless im way wrong here and CW is affected by temperature somehow, i do know that at lower temp CPUs use less heat, but should be insignificant in a non professional test environment. but also means that if your air temp went down, then your CPU temp would have gone down even more, not going higher

We have no plans to sell the entire retention mechanism as a skew.

This doesn't mean that we wouldn't support a customer who's in a jam.

Nice review Vapor. It looks like Gabe was right on with his original data. Well, if HK keeps slacking with getting the mounting kit out for socket 1156, I may have to pick this up.

Vapor, much thanks for doing the testings, and a detailed one too. but what is the degree of error in your test? the GTZ and the GTZ-SE are the same blocks, so why do they have different temps? a difference of greater than 1C amongst the top blocks (like shown in the GTZ vs GTZ SE) will make a determine of the XT is good or bad.

are there any guesses as to how this block will do just for 775 dual cores?

GTZ and GTZ SE tests were really interesting (posted the review like 2 weeks ago)....I used the exact same base, bowing plate, flow insert, etc for both of them, only switching the top. I couldn't find any measurable differences in structure either (other than a slight bevel at the inlet of the GTZ). My conclusion was that the stronger metal top induced the bow 'better' and resulted in better performance. The difference in results were very repeatable on both bases and still are (though one base has been hacked apart now). I really can't think of any other explanation for the difference--certainly the airflow over the block couldn't do it, if for no other reason than the fact that my airflow temperature was as high as water temps.

After burning in my TIM, I can repeat the test session multiple times and all the results stay within less than .1C, so I think the error isn't too bad at all

I'll be receiving a couple of hundred 1156 back-plates just to put out fires on Friday.

Makes me want to forget about waiting for the GTZ's 1156 mounting and go ahead and by the XT. Decisions, decisions.

i tell myself, i only have to buy one waterblock and it will last forever, but we keep getting better and better every year and its becoming impossible to justify keeping last years top dog that now looks like a joke. (which makes me wish someone would do a review showing the best water blocks of each year for the last 5 years and see what kind of advances have been made)

Sure, if he has any stock left we'll complete his inventory with the same # of back-plates.

Otherwise, as planned, we will send the bp's for free to anyone who asks - with proof of purchase

Just send an e-mail to Michelle when we get one? I'm getting a bit impatient waiting for HK, so your block is once again looking very appeasing Gabe.

dont suppose you could give an eta on the XT to Mittoni, your australian distributer?
its not looking super expensive to order from the states, but if i can get one locally for the right price.

hi Gabe, with regards to the normal "close" holed inlet outlet, would it be possible to fit 2 45º rotary compressions on it?
