Seriously though, great looking block. I just got my GTZ (discounted) but haven't installed it yet... now I'm mulling over an XT "instant upgrade".

I just always wondered this, since it makes no sense to me, being only 1 way. Unless I am not thinking of something.
yes you can mount 180 degrees. there are two sides with 3 screws. as long as one 3-screw side is adjacent and parallel to locking lever, its fine.

    correct

YES. I didn't put that on the web page because it really is too extrme, but we tweaked the retention to compensate for lapped CPU's. Live and learn!!!

I expect it to be, but who knows? until we test, we really can't tell.

sure does. very good job with your design

    *ninja edit*

Unless there is a limitation with the block where it can NOT seat properly on the socket if oriented not as directed.
TELLING: yes, you are 100% correct. thanks for clarifying. there are no mechanical limitations in terms of install orientation. Just piss-poor performance (relatively speaking).

Is there a possibility that swiftech make different colors for these water blocks?

Assuming if I want my tubings to go in from another way, I can no longer do it with this block.
    2. It looks like this is very much the same like the GTZ except for some cosmetic differences on the top. Also to be honest, I moved from Apogee GT to GTZ with little or no improvements. I'd be happy if Swiftech makes a product that enables us to mount whichever direction that we want and/or at least give a reasonable improvements in temps or it doesn't justify an upgrade at all.
other than: the overal shape of the bracket, which is pretty dictated by the mount pattern, the size of the invidual pin in the pin matrix, the material of the base (copper), and the inlet/outlet thread class (1-4" BSPP) everything else is actually different.

MUST instead of RECOMMEND: most people who buy an $80 waterblock expect the absolute best performance. If they want this performance, then they MUST follow our installation instructions. Otherwise, why buying an $80 block? Just buy an Apogee GT for $39.95!

ETA in the US is ~October 15. There is never anything firm until the product is finished, QC'd, shipped, and arrived in stock ;-)

The 1156 bracket is NOT optional. it is included with the XT. It just wasn't ready yet, and we did not want to delay release of the XT for another 2 weeks for a bracket used in a CPU that was just introduced on the market and not yet in super high demand. As clearly indicated on our site, we will mail the bracket upon request for those customers purchasing the first batch of XT's shipped without the bracket. After that, we'll be bundling both bracket in the box.

But a good question though, when are the MCP355's going to be updated to the DDC 3.25's?

Actually, I'm looking to get my hands on some 3.15's and mod them. I'm just way too cheap to buy Koolances or DD's 3.25's.

It'd actually be nice if the 3.x5's came out as a different number, say. . .360 & 365 respectively. It'd be easier for ppl to tell the difference.

Any idea whether the S775 backplate which came with the Apogee GTX/GTZ will work with the Apogee XT too please?

Even if it wasn't battling for the crown of best performing i7 block, it definitely wins on pure aesthetics. I knew there was a point to holding off on upgrading my fuzion.

Took the plunge and just bought mine from FCPU a little bit ago. Looking forward to it.

Gabe, any reason there might be a problem having the hold-down bracket powder coated? I love everything about the new block except the shiny hold-down plate, so was thinking of having it powder coated black with a couple other pieces to have it match. Thanks.

Oh, so in that case I should just hold out then for a new black hold-down plate I take it Probably too early to ask, but any idea how far out that is?
