In a spanish forum they also worked in a solution: you need to plug a monitor into de NVIDIA card in order to make it run..so they created a "monitor emulator":

One way or another, I think people will keep using their NVIDIAs to use physx...

it may work now, but i dont see how its too hard to bypass this later. im sure they can think of other methods to know their cards really arnt being used.

Doesn't matter. Someone will find a way to break that too. I hope they do one patch solution to enabling SLI on any board, enabling physX for ATI and this one so there is nothing NVidia to hold hostage.

It's a corporate thing. They feel that if they can bully you into buying a main card from them AND a physx card, it's a better sale.

it does matter if you plan to spend money to fix a problem. if theres a free way, then your just spending time instead of cash. and time is worthless (or invaluable, i forget which)

Its latest version of PhysX System Software also prevents physics processing unit (PPU) cards from working if a Non-Nvidia GPU is present.
i laughed when i read this, i was wondering how long it would be before the drivers got cracked....

I'm guessing cause they figure buying Ageia didn't quite make up for this. I wouldn't be surprised down the road if they try and sell Ageia cards. I mean Nvidia recently said that their lowest end cards were as good as ATI's high end cards because ATI's didn't have PhysX or something along those lines. Either way the only winner here is the guys who made money off of the sale of Ageia.

The important thing here is that after the hack it works.

That sheds some light on the variety of reasons that NVidia gave for disabling it. Not that any of us ever bought them, but we need some more formal proof to convince people without a technical background.

Yeah thanks, this is what the rapidshare link displays:-
    Error

This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.

    This limit is reached.

To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information.

Problem is that with the PPU you have to update the run times in order to play new games. I know cuz I just got one for a good deal to play with. Now Im pist they did this crap. Funny how this happened before a official win7 driver.

Folders have been using this for some time now including myself. It does work but sometimes when you open something it disappears into an invisible desktop. So when your not using it you will have to disable the card by un-extending the desktop so you don't have to go back and keep unplugging it.

seems a cool idea, with a drawback or 2

so right, you have your monitor plugged into ati card, adapter in nvidia, install physx drivers (without patch you dont need it with this) then install ati

then all should be gravy ?

That's what Prava said. I did not try but only confirming this gadget works to fake a monitor on a card thereby activating it. Folders have been using this device on the 3870X2 (which I have) and the 4870X2 for activating the other GPU.

On the one hand nVidia is trying to drive sales of (1.1xGen outdated) GPUs on the back of GPGPU tech while the other hand is stopping users who care and benefit from it from doing just that!

Hi left hand, I'm right hand. What are you doing?

I think we should start a boycott on all Fermi/GT300/NV GPGPU news until nVidia U-Turns on this, not just here but on all the sites we use.

right click the program on the start bar, click move, press an arrow key, then move your mouse to finish moving it (its faster than holding arrow keys).
