    Question DVD Rip How To?

Well on my old 32 bit vista I used Handbrake along with DVD43 and it worked well. But DVD43 is not compatible with 64 bit Win 7. So I would like to use handbrake again but need a 64 bit compatible "Decoder?" to get my DVD's on my computer.

    Thank you.

No, DVDs dont work like that. And now programs that do that are illegal thanks to the doofus federal government and judiciary.

I've ripped vista x86 and x64 to my hd several times with no other software, then trimmed them up with vlite.

No, hes talking about ripping DVD movies to his harddrive which is quite different from creating a disc image or copying files over.

they ruled that selling software to do that was illegal not ripping the dvd, ripping a dvd is protected by fair use under the dmca but selling software to rip the dvd is selling a means to defeat copy protection and thats illegal under the DMCA

the DMCA is a magical thing

Yeah anydvd will work. It will cost a lot of money though. I think you are better off using dvddecrypter. It's free and has many more options (like the ability to only rip one stream from a movie). The only reason to not use DVDD is because it hasn't been under development in a while and will not bypass a small amount of copy protection schemes. I have anydvd which I use for ripping blu-rays and I don't think I have ever needed it for a DVD. I always use DVDD. DVDD can also do what anydvd does perfectly fine; which is rip a DVD to an .iso.

Oh yeah. I use all of this software on both Vista and W7 X64. If you tool doesn't work on 64 bit Windows there is something wrong with it, so you should scrap it any way.

So if someone was to give the software away they wouldnt be selling it and henceforth not breaking the law? The DMCA is so massively retarded...

Depends on your opinion on quality. a 300-400mb h.264 rip IMO looks like utter poop. I use very strong h.264 settings w/ a bitrate of 2000. It looks great, but movies are ~1.5GB each.

im happy with the 1462 bit 704x400 h264 for a dvd rip

Why don't you guys just use CRF? A bitrate of 2,000 would probably be overkill for many sources IMO.

The why not just keep .iso images or something like that? Probably you're like me and would encode no matter how much HDD space I have. It's about the encoding and filtering, not 100% just the movie.

I don't need menus, extra, etc. I just want the movie. I just want the highest quality possible. I could probably go w/ a lower bitrate, but ~ 1.5GB per movie or 750mb per TV episode is small enough for me.
