    Replacement gas

Altough i have a thread running on my project i thought this was worth starting a new thread.

I have a compressor that runs on R22-R502, both out of the loop. Now from what i have unerstand, i simply cannot say hmm let's fill it with R507 cause that would kill my oil and compressor. Now how do i choose the best substitute?
I know there are substitue that are standard, but are their other gasses worth considering and trying? Why asking? I believe a substitute gas packed with a 1/2hp comp, can at the end perform worser then a 1/4 packed with right gas.
    No?

    Anyone care to elaborate?

you must replace the oil from AB/MO to POE if you want replace r22/r502 to r507, if you do not want to change the oil so you can use r402a

    http://www2.dupont.com/Refrigerants/.../Suva410A.html

let you see, at the DuPont website, most of the new generation refrigerant is a replacement of the R22, there is listed Lubricant Recommendation

why not possible? all the compressor oil can be replaced, yeah R402a is better than R417a after all, better cooling capacity and lower boiling point

people sometimes charge to say 50 psi of r290 (propane), and then fill with r507 or other gas of choice.

I agree, add about 5% of R-290 (propane) to the total charge of your HCF refrigerant (R-507/R-404/R-410/R-407C). This way lubrication will be sufficient.

P.S.: R-402 has about 2-3% of R-290 in the blend just for oil compatibility.
