    ATI 5850/5870 voltmod thread

If they've not already been sorted out...

whos got a card and who wants to post up high-res pics of the PWM area so these cards can get pushed properly?

Is there two VT1165MF's? The one for Vgpu is hard to understand.

no support in rt yet for the i2c bus on those new cards, but soon

gputool working fine since yday .. gave test version to a few key overclockers

second controller is not memory voltage but vddci which is some gpu io voltage.. dont know all the details yet, but doesnt seem to do much for ocers

w1zzard, I remember hearing something about the RV870 having some sort of uncore, do you think it could be that?

A spot on the PCB that is connected to the FB on the VOLTCHIP must always be discovered, weather the chip is voltera or not
That way we can solder a resistor even if it doesnt do anything at all.
Still we ll have a hardmod!

You're joking about soldering a resistor that does nothing at all, right?

I know little about hard modding, so I was hoping that the 5870 would provide a simple soft-modding solution whereby a later version of RivaTuner would handle it. Is this the case, or is hard modding required on the non-Asus 5870's?

    Course i am joking pal!
Just referring to the hardcore moders that need to see the resistor soldered on their cards PCB even if they voltmod via software!

By the way i ll be having my 5870 really soon!

Great! I have an XFX 5870 on backorder... hoping I'll get it by the end of next week. I probably won't try to softmod it until a version of RivaTuner is released that supports the 5870 though.

Oh I am excited about the voltmod possibilities for the 5850 mostly! I am hoping eventually when it drops in price I can make a little beast out of it.

    hi

doesn't seem to work for the 5850?

MSI Afterburner works but it up's the UVD clock voltage, not the 3d clock voltage

Those labelings on the pics are incorrect, btw.
The first on is completely wrong. On second one, only the "GPU Vcc" part is correct.

..wonder what the empty plug position on the backside of the PCB was for..? What ever it is..its pretty close to the voltage control IC's..maybe some kind of 'commissioning plug'..?

    *Its 'JU4000' in this pic

@ Largon.. is that vMEM controller near the JU4000, you think?

This is how I see it:

Name:	HD5870_VRMs.jpg

That missing JU4000 connector does have direct connection to the resistor network of VT1165MF GPU vDDC controller. I have no idea what effect it would have, if any, as the datasheet for VT1165MF is not available, as usual.

i agree with largon. but shouldnt there be some kind of "control" component for the memory ? or is that all inegrated in vt243 ?

@ W1zzard . will the gputool support the 5850 at sometime?

why gputool 0.0.0 doesn't work with 5850 but works with 5870... the 5850 as the same chip (VT165MF) as a 5870 surely it should work?

the afterburn and gputool also not work on my Power color 5850 for the Voltage tweak.
i believe Wizzard is using a testing gputool that work on 5850. and not sure when will it be available on public.
perhaps a Asus or Msi 5850 bios will solve our problem?
