    Fuad is funny:

    Reality check

A few HD 5870 cards probably got shipped here and there but in reality, we haven’t seen many Radeon 5870 cards shipping to their new owners. We talked to partners and some of them might have a few cards next week and October is the month when things should get better.

The big guys such as Newegg and Tigerdirect don’t have them, and in EU, a hundred plus cards are listed here, but none of them are available.

A launch partner in the UK got 20 cards and they sold instantly as there is a demand as the price is not that horrible, but the delayed Radeon 5850 might be a much better deal for roughly €210+ or $230 in the states.

We hope that Radeon 5870 is not what AMD management calls a hard launch, as they surely didn’t do a great job this time around.

Did I not see reviews for the PowerColor, Sapphire, and HIS cards and available cards from XFX?

There were over 120 cards for Overclockers alone (UK), then some for DABS (I got one from them), some for Scan, CCL, Novatech, etc ...

Besides cards are coming up every day this week ....
So in other worlds, availability is low but far from impossible to get! It will only get better with time!
5850 are starting appearing in US, as in Europe they will next week.

    Sensationalism at best!

Guys, it's not because you can name a few stores that it's not a paper launch or close to it. I spend the day at MSI yesterday and I was confirmed that the 5870's aren't available everywhere in large amounts.

In Belgium cards will be delivered next week (october).

Btw, a friend bought three of these cards in the UK at Overclockers and he was confirmed that all were sold out within an hour. That means: not that much in stock. But, well, FUD always makes things sound a bit worse/great. Not how it really is

Yes, if you go to their forum they admit 120 card in around 1 hour!
I have reseller account with some of the UK bigger dealers and I saw real time quantities. Nothing different to HD4870 launch so if you want to call them paper, hard or whatever doesn't matter. What matters is that picture drawn by Fuad is a bit skewed in a same way as Charlies articles about nVidia.

I know that some countries are in better supply than others (look UK vs. Germany), but the cards are real, were in stock and few people bough them already which for me is enough to say hard launch.
Besides low availability somehow plays in hands of retailers because they can make bigger profit on each card in the initial phase, and later on concentrate on volume and price wars.

Just for UK campers information DABS will have 20 Sapphire HD5850 and 10 HD5870 early next week also few XFX cards around that time.

The supply is somewhat low but not limited and will only get better.
There is a constant stream of cards to vendors every couple of days.

Meh... anyone who really wanted one, got one. You can't be lazy about checking stock around launch and then complain when you don't get a card.

I didn't even have to try that hard to get mine...

I don't know about that. I went to purchase my new rig and in the time it took to add everything to my cart and checkout the card had sold out and they haven't been available since. :/ It threw off my whole build and the agility went $100 in price haha.

That's alright though I'd assume there will be more available monday.
