i try with 200 bclk but need more vcore and i'm trying to stay low.
I see oc at 3.7-3.8 with 1.25-1.28 vcore (i set vcore at bios 1.288 with low vdroop and at cpu-z 1.304 full load 1.344). How i can have multiplier x21?
Also i dont know maybe its bios (1.8, latest) and i was wondering other users of msi p55 gd65 what bios use?

Is there anyone with 8GB ram that has overclocked their i5 to 4GHz? My Maximus III Formula has been playing silly beggars all day after I fitted another two ram sticks in.

Finally got onto Windows and am at the desktop at 3.6GHz with 1.2vcore and 1.27VTT... hopefully no detrimental effects in the long run with that sort of VTT. 4GHz required 1.19VTT with 4GB ram in comparison.

Yes, but I'm using a Gigabyte P55-UD3R motherboard with 4GB of G. Skill RAM and 4GB of Corsair XMS RAM (both DDR3 1600).

Wow... 1.23 vcore? Lowest I've seen for a 4GHz overclock, what's your VTT at those settings? Thanks.

I have it set at 1.19.....I built the system back in November and it's been running great ever since. I'm still using an early beta bios for the Gigabyte MB too (why change what's working I always say).

    Im about to get either an i5 650, i5 750, or i5 760. The 650 is $110, the 750 is $190 (local pickup at MC), or the 760 is $190 - $6 BCB.
Anyway, going in a Gig P55A-UD4P with a TRUE for cooling, and is really for gaming and browsing only. Gaming is with two 470s at 5760x1200. So with the high res and GPU bottleneck will I see an advantage with the quad cores?

Also, the board was a refurb off ebay, I never used it. The 760 is not listed as a supported CPU yet, so I dont know if I want to risk needing a BIOS update.

Anyway, expected daily OC would be 4.3-4.4HT for the 650 or 4ish for either quad.

I would just get the i5 760. Worst case scenario you sell the motherboard here and get one that supports it.

Can you force Turbo to stick with 21x and not go higher for less cores being used on the i5 750?
I got the board refurb on ebay, cant really resell it without testing it. Also, its the one I want.

It's nice....but it's not really a high OC compared to most around here.

Check out the guide linked in my sig to push it to the limit

This is about my limit it seems at least after a few quick tries to go higher. Don't really care to give it more than 1.35 vcore and 1.3 VTT. This with 1.33 vcore in BIOS. C1E and EIST are on as you can see in Real Temp.

    Hi,

I'm having a ton of trouble reaching 4GHz at any sane voltage.
I read miahallen's guide (thanks dude ) over and over again and isolated bclk and max memory. But when I
bump the multiplier up, I can't seem to keep it stable no matter what VCORE I use.

Is there a direct correlation between CPU frequency and VTT voltage?

I settled with nice and fine 215bclk at 1,27 VTT voltage and memory at 1720MHz 6-6-6-20
It is prime stable for 11hrs and linx 60 passes.

Could it be that upping the multiplier might need upping the VTT voltage as well besides upping the VCORE?

to make a fast test try with lower bclk (200x20) or (190x21) but with the same vtt with occt linpack and if its still not stable u prolly need more vcore.
My i5 750 need almost 0.1 v more from 3.8 ghz to 4 ghz to pass 2hours occt linpack(yes my cpu isnt great).

Hmm, you were right. Before it would've crashed already, now it runs for like half an hour. Is it stable is hard to tell, but we'll see.

    vCore 1.3
    VTT 1.2
vDIMM 1.65 (or 1.66 if 1.65 is not available)
PCH and PLL 1.05 and 1.8 respectively.

Start working your way up from there. You should read this too. Great

thank you I would try 1.3v but at 1.25v and 4ghz my cpu hits over 70 celcius. Im using a Corsair H50 with two fans in push pull and Arctic Cooling 5 TIM. Also my CPU has no VID apparently. No matter what software I used it wouldnt show my CPU VID.

Load system optimized defaults and enter the bios immediately.
The value under hardware monitoring tab is your VID (+/- of course).

Consider remounting the H50. 70° is a hell lot for such a low vCore. Though my setup leaves H50 in the dirt and thus not directly comparable, I'm seeing
temperatures in 70-75 range with massively undervolted fans when running same frequency and pumping 1.4v through it, running IBT.

Ive remounted the H50 this morning. I had too much TIM on the CPU at first so I used the Arctic Cooling two step cleaning kit on the CPU and H50. I waited 5 minutes for the CPU to dry and put a pea size ammount of AS5 in the middle of the CPU . Then put the cooler onto the CPU at a slight angle to remove air bubbles then tightened the cooler as much as possible. I have the CPU running Prime95 now with a half hour with the voltages you posted but the CPU is @ 1.56V and its maxxed out at 72 celcius. According to Intel the max temp the CPU is good at is 74.2 Celcius. Maybe my CPU isnt a good Overclocker. Im not going to Prime run this for more than two hours. I dont see the need to do so.

    PS. Core 0 is @ 72 Celcius , Core 1 is @ 68 , core 2 is @ 66 , Core 3 is @ 67. Im sure when the AS5 settles the temps should even out and lower a little.

[EDIT] I think I might have found why the CPU is getting so hot. The H%0's radiator is picking up heat from my GPU. The GPU is only about an inch away from the rad. Im going to move the rad to the top of my case and turn the fans around to blow air into the case.

That is a new one for me regarding Intel. I know they are good to go anything lower than TJmax, but this is first time I hear about 74.2°C.
My personal preference is TJmax - 15°C. Also, Intel themselves are sending CPUs to retail with fans not capable of holding those CPUs at less
    than 74.2°C when loaded heavily.

Hope that is typo CPU@ 1.56v
According to Intel max safe vCore is 1.55 for Core i5.

So, you mentioned using 1.25v@4GHz? Was it stable? My numbers are not necessary if you already had stable OC with lower volts.

Sorry. I meant 1.256V on the CPU. Also I reckon the heat from the GPU is effecting my H50's rad so I will move it to the top of my case and turn all the fans around. This might help all round cooling anyway.

Yes its dead stable here after an hour of Prime 95 with 1.256V @ 4GHZ. I dont a lot of tweaking in the past 4 hours to get it stable. Gotta love the Turbo V and RC Tweak it for this motherboard.
