Best supper Pi 32M I could do with this CPU, only one more Bclock and it would have been great to see 7M 10s, but on loop 17 it always crashes out with a week IMC so will have to stick with this result of 7M 13.141s

Very nice review sacha35, would you recommend this board over the Rampage Extreme for gaming?

I am thinking of picking this board up once it hits the shores here in Japan.

I think rampage extreme is no longer available out there. No etailers sell this board except NCIX. I love both of these boards.

Hi there I would say go for the MF3 as games are using more and more threads these days so having the MF3 with an 860 or 870 in there will give you 8 threads instead of only 4 with the old 775 system which will give you a lot of performance over the socket 775, also because this is a new architecture the CPU's use less energy so it will be a bit cheaper to run which is nice, the memory performance is better than the socket 775, overall I would say yes go for the MF3 you won't regret it as it has everything you will need in a motherboard and more.

thanks for sharing Sasha, so what's the max bclock that you have reached?

edit: do you think that this mobo has troubles with a XEON X3460?

Hi Kurtz the best Bclock was 252 that I could do on the 870, as for the Xeon, I could not say if it would be a problem or not as I do not have one of these Xeon Chips to hand to test.

hi sacha, i have just build up my system

    M3F+860+2x2gb gskill 2000mhz

    i'm testing 180x20=3600mhz with 1.9vcore

could you suggest me how to set other voltage like IMC PLL and PCH ?

is PCH = SB ? IMC = memory controller ?

which of them is more relevant for stability ? i'm coming from 775 and mi ideas are not so clear tnx

    Great mobo !

Nice one Edo, I said you would love this M/B, looks like you have a nice setup there, I will get round to putting some basic settings up for users to see when I get some time but for now just reset everything back to stock or use ASUS own 3.6Gig overclock as this will be much safer for you at the moment.

By the way I hope you are not using 1.9Vcore on that CPU, as this is far too much, I would recommend for stock air cooling not going above 1.35v and 1.4v for good air cooling.

I don't think this architecture has _ever_ been able to even POST 1.9vcore, much less load OS and run it.

    ups sorry :d i missed a one : i meant 1.19

anyway this is my first result

    180x20=3600
    Load line enabled
    PLL 1.85500 (i think i could decrease)
    IMC 1.200575 ( i think i could decrease)
    PCH 1.04675
    DRAM 1.64300
    CPU 1.2 ( i think i could decrease)

I am still on the fence here, not sure of which one to get for gaming only, the RE2 or the MF3......

Read many posts here on the comparison on the i7 against the i5 and still not sure if the i5 is a good choice.

Anyone here that has move from the i7 to the i5? Would love to here your thoughts.

Looking good there, just keep an eye on the temps, if they go any higher get a better heatsink, also you don't want to be running prime to long as its only wasting time and degrading the CPU as it is fully loaded all the time.

There are two options for you as you say, for gaming there is not that much difference between the REII and MF3, the REII will be the better bet but is more expensive and then you have the CPU which again is more expensive, an i5 750 would be good enough with a slight overclock on it for gamming but I don't think you would need the MF3 for this, see my Review of the P7P55D Deluxe with all tests shown with core i5 750 running at 4000MHz

Heya Sacha love your reviews, what's the difference to 55D Deluxe?

What is RE2? MF3 is Maximus Formula 3 right?

The MF3 Is the Extreme edition P55 where the P7P55D Deluxe is a very good all-round board, the P7P55D Deluxe is very good but for extreme overclockers the MF3 offers that bit more when squeezing the last bit out.

As for RE2 that is the Rampage Extreme II motherboard.

Many thanks for explanation. If I ever move to i5, now i know my choice is going to be P7P55D Deluxe cause it has everything I would need, overally great mobo.

What's the price for MF3 compared to 55D Deluxe?

Hm not much difference, 10 to 15€....

    Thanks for the reply Sacha,

One last question before I decide which one.
I have 2 PCIe 2.0 x1 cards that I wish to use, but on this board if I use the first PCIe 2.0 x16 with my video card, it looks like it will bock one of the PCIe 2.0 x1 slots.

So my question would be: Is it possible to use the second PCIe 2.0 x16 slot instead of the first one for the video card with no problems?

If so, then it looks like I will go with the MF3.

    Multi-GPU Support
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (red) support single at x16 or dual at x8 mode
    1 x PCIe x16 (white) supports at x4 mode

So it sounds like if I use the second PCIe 2.0 x16 (red) only instead of the first red one, then support for a single at x16 should be OK, right?

Or would it be better to use the 1 x PCIe x16 (white) supports at x4 mode for my EVGA Killer Xeno Pro card?

Thanks for your replies sacha, but I think I have ask my question wrong to you.

The first PCIEx16 slot would be free, so Is it possible to have GPU in the second PCIEx16 slot with full functionality and speed?
So I would only be using 1 of the PCIEx16 slot`s but just wish to know if using the second slot and not the first one will the card have full functionality and full speed?

I am not 100% sure on this, but each PCI-e slot is a x16 slot so would think it would stand as stated in the spec if one card is used/slot then you will have x16 if two cards are used then it goes down to x8 for the second slot used and if three cards are used the third slot is x4.

I can only think this would stay the same regardless of which slot is used, but you would want to use the first PCI-E slot anyway because this is the nearest slot so will be much better and faster than slots that are further away
