Regarding Crysis (comparing a XFX 5870 and GTX285 which I both have). Both tested on clean installs of Windows 7 64 (reinstalled for each test) with nothing installed except the latest video drivers, i7 @ 3.8ghz, intel x25-e hard drive. The test atm favors ATI since right now their cards run the fastest on Windows 7.

The median low framerate is significantly improved. On levels where the 285 starts jittering (down to 17-18fps), the 5870 remains steady (26+ fps). On average it's probably 40% faster than the 285 with Crysis (I'm approximating because the SSC is about 8%+ faster than stock 285).

However, the "maximum" (if there is such a thing) minimum framerates are significantly worse on the HD5870 than on the GTX285. In several points during GPU_bench and during cutscenes, transition scenes, and new levels, the HD5870 "hard locks" for as long as half a second (sometimes repeatedly over time) whereas the GTX285 does not have these problems. So while most of the playing experience has gotten better with the HD5870, there are some pretty glaring gameplay problems right now.

In any case the last image with the price @ Salland is an image Salland put up in january!! So this is far from actual. Besides that, the original link where the other pictures come from, state that the HD5870 will be launched for a sub 500$ price

Why is everyone waiting for this ASUS bios ? What's so special about it ?

I would love to see how the 5850's overclock compared to their big brother 5870 .
only 5850 will fit in my case ...

If I am right, after you load the Asus bios then you can use the Voltage Tweak Technology, it allows users to increase a card's GPU voltage, leading to a boost in GPU and memory frequencies.

    O i see !
Just so voltage modifications are possible already , without waiting for rivatuner/atitool/etc to support the new 58xx series .

Can't wait to see some overclocks for both cards

Does anyone know if/when there is an ETA on 2GB versions of the 5870? I've seen mention to it in some of the pre-release info, but not a whole lot. Thx

I've been reading from other people here on the forums that they're supposed to be released in Oct. However, they haven't mentioned anything more specific than that. I think I'm holding out for the 2GB version as well, but my impatience is getting the best of me.

    I need some clarification here....

So is their two versions of these cards in terms of "Eyefinity"?

I've seen one card with two DVIs along with other outputs and have seen another with six mini ports.

I plan on running 3-24" LCDs and maybe add a 46" flat-screen, just want to know which one to get.

I'd like to know, if the game doesn't support multigpu, will the two gpus of the card still be engaged, or only one will be used? (talking about the 5870 x2)

I bit the bullet on a XFX 5870. I want to avoid CF / SLI with this system this time around for a few reasons if at all possible. I am going to wait to see what the GTX 380 is like and unless it is significantly better on average and has a similar noise / power profile, I'll just stick with the ATI. They are still waiting on stock so who knows how long it will take to get here ( I'm guessing late next week or early the next ) but I'm willing to take requests on any reasonable amount of testing if there is something from a review that hasn't satisfied anyone. My i7 is limited to 3.2 until I receive my Noctua 1336 adapter but it should still be enough for most testing.

Personally I am most interested to see firsthand how it compares with the 4870x2 in terms of noise and the "feel" of games. I've been using a dual GPU card / SLI for some time now so I'll be curious if I notice any difference as far as performance consistency ( something that is never mentioned in reviews for better or for worse )
