Wide-angle lens are definetly good, but you can always go with stitched panoramas, if you have decent PC and SW.

Very very good photos, Im amazed by your skill and that D3000 can squeeze ISO 400 without any noise visible.. As it seems its much better choice for begginer than m4/3 format.

I saw the exposure settings but just wondering if you set the picture control to vivid or standard color.

If I had to guess...standard....I didn't want to add too many variables...it's hard enough for me to remember exposure settings, aperture sizes, etc

Oh no man, your doing great actually, but I usually like the vivid setting for like cars and stuff I think it really just ups the saturation a bit. For people I like neutral and standard for other things.

Yea, have fun with it, take one with standard and then take one with vivid see then see which one you like little better.

    hahahah cool man!

i would find something to pose them IN,, like a city scape or something so it looks like they are fighting.

or head down to a tackle shot and find some super fine fishing line and do some arial shots or even the right color sowing thread, like wolverine jumping or juggernaut flying thru the air with a hammer fist.
and then photoshop the thread out of the picture.

you could try some green screen stuff too, and photoshop them into a street scene.

you can also, with the right lens and bokeh, make them appear like size by setting them up in the street/sidewalk and taking pictures from ground level.

I don't know how green screen works in Phtoshop7, you got links?

any solid color will work, for photoshop the solid color allows for easily outlining and removing the characters.
if you have Photoshop CS5 you can use the smart select and then refine it if need be, copy it from the picture then insert it into another picture.

i dont know how green screens work either but with pictures a solid color background just allows for easily removing the subject from the background and adding it into another picture.

now that i think of it an easier way would be to use the smart select or lasso, refine it as much as you need to, and then make the selection a new layer, make it the top most layer, then add in a picture of what ever you want, city, mountains, you know what ever you want for the backdrop, and add it as another layer, but this time make it the back layer. that way your figurines remain in the foreground of the picture while the new background stays behind and covers up your "green screen"

Nice pics, but bit too high ISO for this I guess. I would try RAW and some noise cleaning plugin or program.

this bugger moved like a hummingbird's heart. I tried sports mode, 800 ISO and these are my best. I'm still working on

last Magnolia Flower found at John Kennedy's Memorial site, facing the Monument .... someone else might post this picture because, while everyone was taking pics of the Memorial, I was facing the opposite way, facing this Magnolia Tree. A possible Pro-Photographer with a Canon DSLR saw me and took the same angle pic after I left.
Anyhoo .... this is untouched for now, just want to share it before it pops up somewhere else

why 1/2000s and ISO 400? you could have used 1/500 and ISO 100 and had a much sharper picture! I have the D3000 and ISO 400 isn't very good in terms of noise

I'm still learning weston, that's why I'm taking as many pics and posting the settings so n00bs like me can learn from critics ... or is it critiques
so I'll know better next time

I did some ISO 100 but have not posted since they were only toy shots, nothing I thought worth posting.

Post some of your pics in this thread weston. I want to see your D3000 pics and settings. It's hard finding D3000 threads on the internet. We'll start our own database amongst these $1000 DSLR shooters here

I dont see a ton of noise in that photo just in upper third maybe where its darker.

One thing I always like to do is Zero the camera out set it back to defaults basically. Then from there I know what I want to set.

With the D3000, I always try to shoot as low iso as I can, then try to keep the shutter at 1/60s or faster (1/20s if the lens is a VR is usually ok)

    Here's a couple of mine

    20mm
    f/3.8
    ISO 100
    1/50s

    50mm prime
    f/2
    iso 200
    1/125s
focused on the eyes and everything else has lens blur from the wide aperture

    50mm prime
    f/1.8
    ISO 200
    1/1600s

D3000 is still decent even if it didn't get great reviews! There's just a couple things I wish it did better.

    thx for the tip weston

on a tripod, set for 10-second timer --- stupid remote wouldn't work, had to shoot between groups of tourist ... was kinda windy so hard to catch the flag

    Aperture f/4.5
    Focal Length 30 mm
ISO Speed 400 --- again, another n00b mistake
