The Live View is basically using the LCD to frame your shot, from what I understand, vs using the viewfinder.

I got this because it's the camera my wife is willing to help me pay
the D90 or D300 was out of the question.

The D5000 has video...that means I may get suckered into making a video...really don't like spending 3 months on Movie Maker to make 5 minute YouTube video.

The Guide is amazing. I learned from it quickly...then more on YouTube...plus from these guys in the various Photography Thread.

    Everyone here is awesome help

Some good photos here, glad you like your slr. I was in the same delima a few months ago (xti vs d40 vs d3000), and ended up finding a LNIB D40x (D40 w/ the 10mp sensor pretty much), with kit lens and three batteries for $370 on the fred miranda forums. Just keep your eyes open, there's good deals floating around.

And IDK about others, but my local Sams Club has the d3000 every day for $469.99

I've had pretty good success with Onecall.com, prices are on par with anything back east; $499 for the D3000 kit as comparison at the moment. They're on the Pacific west coast so shipping time is a little quicker to AZ.

    Great photos, Cpl Ledanek.

I think you are doing a great job with "basic" photo techniques like DOF, aperture sizes, shutter speeds, etc. But you want someone to "critisize" your work so here I go...

Photograph is a very subject matter to say the least and everyone have their style and tastes. Having said that, you could extract more from your subjects. Your macros and details shots are awesome but I think your wide angle clicks could tell me more.

Keep in mind this is not a critcism per se, it's just a opinion based on my own personal taste, sou you could just say stfu to me...

Have you ever thought about start to do some small free-lance gigs?
