Yea older lenses wont af on it like the 50mm 1.8. They do have the AF-S 50mm 1.8 out now and I highly recommend it.

PRO-TIP....actually explanation for n00bs like me, in case someone ask me the different lenses, call it a cheat sheet :

"it's an AF-S lens so it's internal focusing.. it focuses faster and is way better (for MY situation/D3000 lack off AF motor) than the AF-D or AF lenses which relies on the camera body's AF motor."
