ok who want to volunteer to help me out? I will be buildng my last rig of the year this weekend. want to try big wu's.
I need very detailed instructions. I also need to know if I should run linux (ubuntu or something else) or win7 option? Thanks for any help
Will this be a dedicated folder or daily use?
Will you run gpus also or just -bigadv?
I'm running XP64 with 2 gtx260's and ubuntu 64 in a vm with all 8 cores folding that gets me around 38k ppd.
[edit]^^^Thats one of my farm rigs. Its a dedicated folder with an i7 920 @ 3.8

if its your main rig running windows the you can use VMware.virtualization only has a 3% performance penalty. thats very impressive.
here is a thorough guide.

read carefully... or you wont get a bonus!
you can run it in linux if you want but its harder to monitor temps and overclocks and installing fahmon/hfm is a pain. make sure you have 6 GB. on windows the bigadv process used 4.4GB. on linux it was 2.5GB. i guess thats why servers favor linux. running gpu's in windows is easier too.
here is a native linux guide:

the bigadv guide is the next post down.
I'm running bigadv units on my main rig with windows 7. setting it up using vmware is pretty straight forward... I used the same guide and had no problems. but as chumbucket said don't forget about the requirements for the bonus points.
just as reference for you.. my 24/7 folding clock is 4.1ghz, i fold on 6 cores and get about 20k-22k ppd (including the bonus points)
