    my i7 920 is degrading

I noticed my CPU is degrading, I was 100% stable 3 weeks ago 100 passes LinX, 20 hours prime95 blend, then 1 week ago I tried to run LinX and it would error at 8th pass sometimes third pass, I bumped the vcore and it passed fine, then today LinX can't be passed, I have to raise the vcore again, I lowered my OC and I'm stable again, so seems my CPU is degrading, if I turned off LLC, will it continue to degrade?
    I didn't use more than 1.30v VCORE

You could always bump up the vcore a little bit and test again to see if it'll still run at that speed. Let us know hot much more it takes to get it that stable again.

I was stable @ 4GHz with 1.296v for 1 week, but it is not stable anymore, I have to raise vcore to 1.312v, is that mean every week I will have to raise vcore?
Now I lowered my OC to 3.8GHz 1.25v and it is stable with LLC disabled this time, will I suffer more degradation with the new settings?

12 Hours of Prime95 should be enough if you ask me.

Have you upgraded your BIOS by any chance? that could have affected you A LOT.

1.31v is not a lot for 4ghz, just try it for a week and see. Without updating your bios.

100 passes LinX is insane dude 10 is fine for me lol

but degradation happens differently for each chip i think you're unlucky.

what causes the crash? is it a stress tool? other apps dont stress the cpu that much. stress tools are killers and accelerate degradation imo

Extreme is not an extreme enough word to explain the extremeness of 100 passes of Linx, its madness, pointless, no wonder the cpu is degrading.

5 passes is enough, you'd never need more than 10!!

10 passes is not enough because it can fail after the 15th pass or 20th pass

Maybe I stressed too hard but I like to have the best stability I can get, my question now it seems that the degradation begins, will this degradation continue to happen faster till I will only be able to run stock clocks or even worse or the degradation will just stop @ my new settings with LLC disabled? Finally it is better to change the CPU with new one?

I do 3 linx passes :> and 8-14 passes prime95(small ftt+blend) if something should fail it usually happens in these runs. Man that sucks that chip is degrading so fast.

    Totally dumb and totally unneeded.

No wonder if fails after 15-20 now.

Do what the Maker of each App recommends, Inter Burn Test (example) states 5, ok do 10 to final check your 24/7 OC after you have did all your Prime etc.

There is no need to keep running it every week.

There is nothing you will use daily that will even bring your Pc near to what you have just done above, even Encoding 1080p Gay Pr0n.

I agree...if you are the kind of person who thinks stability is measured by running these insanely hardcore "CPU load" apps for hundreds of hours and runs, you should not complain when your CPU begins to degrade. I'm sure more people will begin to see the same thing as I read more and more people here going nuts with Linx runs, which is even more hard on the CPU than P95.

I run P95 for 2 hours and I just tried Linx for the first time yesterday...It's certainly more hard on the CPU and I think 5-10 passes is probably more than enough....I think I will just stick to P95 because even if my system fails in it, it can still do everything else I do daily with no issues.

Am I the only one who thinks 1.3 vcore is too much for a D0 CPU and 4ghz? I run 4ghz stable with 1.24 vcore and 1.25 qpi/dram.

I would say the motherboard or ram is the issue before I settel on the CPU - gigabyte motherboards have never been what I would call durable, despite their ridiculous marketing moniker

+1, i've never seen a noticeable degradation on a CPU.

Wait, whoever uses LinX as a complete stability tool is out of his mind.

I have experienced 20 passes of LinX and still failed Prime95 after 7 hours. Dont know if it was because of heat but anyways, I upped my NB voltage and problems solved.

LinX is good if you want to know if prime is going to fail right away or not.

linx and prime are seriously overrated and put too much stress for no particular reasons, especially when run for long periods of time, there's no reasons to do that other than e-penis comparison

the best stability tools for me is playing cod5 and encoding with x264, if i can do that without crashing nothing can stop that OC

edit even cpu test of 3dmark vantage is a good indicative and quick, no need to run 100% for 24 hours
