    Angry Asus R2E and a I7 920 help

    Fixed the issue.....

Seems my Logitech G-15 gets crazy on this board when i start adding some volts. Used another keyboard same settings where it was messing up and the problem was gone.

Do I see right that you are using DDR3-2115 ? In case this can be the root of your problem, have you tried x4 RAM with the same results?

It does it even when i don't overclock the ram like that. I was just messing around with the ram then. I have 2,000mhz ram though. Could be this G-15 logitech keyboard maybe.

I don't have any G-15 and wouldn't know, but the problems would rather be related to Uncore/QPI than the keyboard, i would guess.

DDR3-2000+ is too much for most CPU-batches, you can try DDR3-1600 with tight timings and get much more stability with almost the same performance for 24/7 use. Give it a shot.

I was actually going to pm chew and see what he thought, or perhaps he could look and suggest his thoughts. As could it be the 920 Co stepping being the issue. As i have ran my ram @ 8-8-8-24 2,075 mhz without a issue every. Just seems this board gets flakey at random times.

    too low VCore.

    and maybe other voltages.

It's best to run VCore at 1.53V
    QPI/VTT at 1.51
    IOH Core at 1.26-1.30v

But I keep HT enabled always!!

Hmmm, looks strange, maybe you have corrupted the BIOS due to a bad flash, have you tried flashing again to see if that makes any difference?

You didn't flash the BIOS from the OS did you?

Well that is what i thought also. But it is stable 100% that day and then if i change something it just freaks out.

As a side note what mhz are you running at for 1.51v or you just saying that is what you use in general for everything?

No i never flash from the os, i use ez-flash and a usb jump drive. But it just does weird stuff like that from time to time. I will unhook this g-15 and see what happens. I do know it makes me wait a little longer with the g-15 to do stuff.

Just do a Hard Clear of your CMOS and then reflash to whatever BIOS version you prefer.

I was using 1504 before selling my third R2E. The R2E to me is a board that cannot OC past 218x21.

I'll be trying the newly released P6TD with the B3 NB chipset in 4-6 weeks.

As for volts you just need to tinker with them.

My R2E would set the voltages up to 214 BClk with 21x locked in and with C1E and EIST enabled and HT enabled. Though if you ran a CPU benchit would Fail Immediately until you added .06-.08 more VCore volts manually in BIOS.

I was thinking along the same lines. Get another motherboard as this one tops out pretty quickly and it is their flagship board also. Wonder how well the B3 NB chipset will work, or should i just go and buy a evga and be done with it.

Seems we are all stuck between a rock and a hard spot at this point. I mean i like the R2E but it has a lot of stuff i will never use. But it is kinda limited in a way at the same time. I just really don't know what to do at this point.

Sooner or later the W3550 will drop to $320 and that will solve my issue.

Then I can run it at 210x23 (or 24x with Turbo)

I bought my RIIE as an open box from new egg, so I didn't get the extra stuff, and only paid 250$ for the board.

I couldn't get mine past 218 also .. which was kind of lame as it was so expensive. I may have to get rid of it and try another board. I do like it a lot, but a new board would be fun to toy around with, and save some $$ :p

The biostar x58 ran my W3520 at 222x21 at 1.38v. But support for Xeons limited the Ram Ratio to 6x and 8x only, which stunk.

anything past 222 blue screened the sytem, like on many boards.

Well it isn't like i'm going to be super clocking with this C0 stepping. But hopefuly someone with a evga or perhaps a DFI will come in here and say what they are getting.

Hopefully i can find someone that may like to swap out. Or in the same boat would like to try something else.

It always lags when i use it. If i hit [del] to enter the bios it takes a while. With my none g-15 keyboard it is instant.

Also forgot to mention sometimes i couldn't even get this keyboard to work in the bios. You could hit the arrows and and it just sit there, reboot next time it would work. Seems this g-15 and asus doesn't play well together. Pity as i really like the lights for playing at night with no light on in the room. Maybe time to grab a G-19 and retire this one.
