GPUs Set to Increase Performance by 570 Times by 2015 – Chief Executive of Nvidia.

Nvidia’s Head Expects Giant Leap in GPU Performance

"Considering the fact that modern graphics chips can offer about 1TFLOPs of computing power, then in 2015 they will offer whopping 570TFLOPs."

Is this just Nvidia's ploy to get its stock to grow by 570% overnight?

Somewhat misleading as in the slides they mention cpu and gpu performance combined (eg CUDA ect ) Still this would require a lot in the way of advancement to live up to its claim. And yes it's nothing more than to bolster share holder confidence for the long term whether its true or not.

Seems unlikely... Not happening even if doubled twice each year. So I call BS.

Yes, I know!!! 570 times in only 6 years is 99.999999% likely to be Jen Hsuang's most infamous lie found in his book of life!

LOL be lucky to see a 64x increase in 6 years from todays GPU's. Taking that it doubles every year. More likely senerio of every 18 months which would put it to be 16x as powerful.

He's prolly talking theoretical possible throughput, as we all know all of that or even hardly small portion of it's gonna be used in practice unless software coders move along from their stubborn coding conventions/habits/resistance of new tech. Involve CUDA in such figure and it's even less likely to happen. I had been impressed if even 50TFLOPS of that 570 was actually used by 2015! Just take a look at the PS3 console...

The prediction of Mr. Huang sharply contradicts with prediction of William Dally, chief scientist of Nvidia, who expects GPUs to have 20TFLOPs performance in 2015.
i dont think i need to add anything to this statement.

Well, sure, the 570x looks impressive, but I predict that within 6 years, computers will be twice as powerful, 10,000 times larger, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.

Anyways this just sounds like a marketing ploy to get more people to develop software to run on GPUs now so in a few years you can expect massive performance increases.

I will open 652 cans of Whoop Ass over the next 8 years. Meanwhile, the speed of an intel processor is expected to become significantly slower each day. SLi ftw.

570x as powerfull wont be hard, if u look back we had the 9800xt or pro as the top uncontested card and it was under 4gflops so from that to now with 1.6tflops on the rv790 we have a huge jump of about 400-500x, and if we were to compare the 5900 ultra to the 285 im sure that we would see the same range of numbers. and if u included the 295 and x2 then its an even larger jump

I believe hes saying nvidia's cpu + gpu will consume 570x more power than 285gtx.

"According to Mr. Huang, by 2015 graphics processing units will consume power that is 570 times higher compared to today’s GPUs." (fixed)
